TWO COMMUNICATION OFFICERS

Are you a communicator passionate about global development issues? Forum Syd is now looking for two Communication Officers to join our Advocacy & Communications team.

Forum Syd is a civil society member organisation that works with development issues from a rights-based perspective. Our vision is “a just and sustainable world where all people have the power to effect change”. We work with advocacy and capacity building of partner organisations around the world, on issues relating to democracy and human rights, gender equality, and environment and climate change. We mediate grants from Sida (the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) to Swedish organisations cooperating with local partners in 70 countries. We have offices in Sweden, Belarus, Cambodia, Colombia, Kenya and Somalia.

We are now looking for two Communication Officers to join our Advocacy & Communication department. Forum Syd is in an exciting organisational change process where we are connecting the local and the global to make the most out of our resources, experiences and competences. The change will increase effectiveness and coherence in our development cooperation, reinforce member value and strengthen the link between the development work and external communication.

We are now forming a global Advocacy and Communications team across our offices. We are a dynamic team of communicators and policy officers that advise the organisation with specialist knowledge in communication and advocacy. As a Communication Officer, you will be responsible for creating strategic external communications on the results, for various channels such as the web, social media and press.

Areas of responsibility

• Coordinate and develop Forum Syd’s strategic and operational communication, media and advocacy work in close cooperation with our offices and member organisations
• Establish and maintain contacts with media, decision-makers and relevant networks
• Monitor Swedish aid policy and global development issues in media
• Formulate messages and produce materials for the web as well as for media and advocacy
• Strategic development on how to collect and communicate Forum Syd’s results from our operations worldwide
• Participate in the work of graphic productions, such as the annual report and other graphic materials
• Other tasks related to the work of the Advocacy & Communication department
• Contribute to the organisational learning and development

Qualifications required

• Relevant academic degree or equivalent qualifications obtained in another way
• Minimum 2 years of experience as communication officer
• Very good communication skills
• Good knowledge about global development and Swedish aid policy
• Excellent stylistic ability
• Excellent knowledge in communication techniques, tools, methods, channels, etc.
• Good ability to combine strategy with current events and independently perform analyses
• Excellent ability to express oneself orally and in writing to relevant target groups in English and Swedish.

The position as Communication Officer is a full time permanent position with six months probationary period at Forum Syd’s head office in Stockholm, Sweden. We are looking to recruit one Communication Officer who can start as soon as possible, and one Communication Officer who can start 1 July 2017.
