Org. Setting and Reporting

The Internship (1 position) is located with the Administrative Officer of the UNGSC Director Office. It is for a period of three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the office and availability of the candidate. Interns are not paid and are responsible for all expenses related to the internship.

UNGSC-UNLB accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship.

Therefore, upon awarding an internship, candidates will be required to sign a statement confirming their understanding and acceptance of the conditions of service.

Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities

The selected intern, as tasked by the supervisor, will be involved in overall work and responsibilities of the Administrative Office, developing communication material and implementing projects and crosscutting issues. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:

A) Communicate and follow up with clients about specific projects and their goals;

B) Generate solutions for clients based on services rendered and in coordination with the Project Manager;

C) Prepare written reports for clients and managers based on labor, materials, equipment and other information

D) Visit project sites to evaluate progress and to respond to customers' concerns or questions;

E) Coordinate with stakeholders and clients to ensure our project teams have the materials they need

F) Communicate delays and any other issues that must be communicated to clients and managers

G) Create digital blueprints and schematics for future access;

H) Perform other office duties as required.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

•Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;

•Be computer literate in standard software applications;

•Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

•Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.

Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Assessment

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
