The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

The purpose of the Education Project Coordinator is to contribute to the design, responsible for the development and implementation of CC programme/project in a small and medium size Country Operation or a start-up/small CC in a large country.

Job description

  • GENERIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Contribute to the development of the CC strategy, technical SOPs / guidelines and Macro LFAs
  • Compliance and adherence to NRC policies, CC tools, handbooks and guidelines
  • Contribute to the development and management of funding proposals, project budgets and donor reports
  • Coordinate Education project implementation (activities, budget and project documentation) in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements.
  • Collaborate with CC Specialist and Education Project Manager to ensure high technical quality of project/s
  • Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
  • Promote the rights of IDPs /returnees in line with the advocacy strategy.
  • Pro-actively work to prevent fraud or corruption by working ensuring adherence to NRC guidelines on fraud prevention with relevant line managers to improve transparency and to ensure the best use of NRC asset and resources.

  • SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Under the supervision of the Project Manager to provide remote leadership to NRC's Education activities in northern Syria that focuses on ensuring that out of school children (OOSC) are supported through education in emergency interventions as well as providing the opportunities to their potential integration into learning systems of the future.
  • Supervision of the education officers to implement NRC's education activities in Idleb and Azaz;
  • Ensure that activities are in line with budget lines and limitations;
  • Work closely with the Education Project Manager to ensure that NRC is able to rapidly respond to emergency and crisis in northern Syria with interventions that supports the emergency needs of children;
  • Pro-actively liaise and coordinate with the relevant authorities and Civil Society Organizations providing similar activities in northern Syria;
  • Ensure that NRC has necessary approvals from the relevant authorities to implement the project;
  • Support the Partnership Officer to establish a strong relationship with project partner;
  • Work coordination with M+E staff to ensure activities fits with the overall aim and objectives of the project with a monitoring system to provide real time results feedback and utilisation of NRC's Mobenzi data management system;
  • Support the education team to create /develop /implement necessary trainings for teachers, social workers and other relevant staff working with children in Syria;
  • Deputise as internal OIC and cluster representative in the absence of the Project Manager;
  • Contribute to the design and develop program approaches and activities that can be piloted and expanded to other project areas.
  • Any other task relevant to the position as requested by line manager.

Qualifications

  • Experience from working a 3 years in leading implementation of education project in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal, Turkish and Arabic desirable.
