DRC is inviting local candidates to apply for the position of Multi-Functional Safe Space Assistant, to provide support to the MFSS officer in planning, implementation, reporting overall MFSS activities.

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and non-profit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 35 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Turkey since early 2013, working with by and large with non-camp Syrian refugees and affected host communities. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves. The overall objective for DRC in Turkey is the protection and promotion of durable solutions to displacement affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights with more immediate objectives focusing both on the immediate subsistence needs, protection and self-reliance support as well as a more long term focus on capacity building. In Turkey, DRC works partially through partners, also providing intensive capacity building support, while also conducting direct implementation.
 
About the Job 
 
The position Multi-Functional Safe Space Assistant will be based in Şanlıurfa - Turkey. DRC is inviting local candidates to apply, to provide support to the MFSS officer in planning, implementation, reporting overall MFSS activities.
 
Duties and Responsibilities
General Responsibilities:
  • Abide by and promote DRC’s vision, values, aims & objectives and equal opportunities policy.  
  • Develop and conduct indoor and outdoor activities in and through the MFSS addressing psychosocial, cross-cultural, life skills and awareness issues and needs of beneficiaries in collaboration with MFSS, community based protection, and other relevant teams and under the supervision of MFSS officer.  
  • Coordinate utilisation of MFSS facilities among relevant DRC teams, partner organisations, community committees, and other groups. 
  • Encourage and facilitate beneficiaries’ participation in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of the activities.  
  • Inform MFSS officers to maintain timely flow of materials for implementation of activities. 
  • Advise and assist beneficiaries about DRC services and schedules upon completion of relevant forms/needs assessment;  
  • Supervise volunteers in MFSS and outreach activities. 
  • Conducted any other suitable duties as agreed with the MFSS Officer. 
  • Assist the MFSS Officer in developing outreach strategies/ schedules. 
  • Facilitate information sessions, interactive discussions, and behaviour change activities to enhance psychosocial well-being of beneficiaries.  
  • Undertake outreach activities and informative sessions on MFSS services to target groups and record feedback (comments, suggestions). 
  • Undertake site/field visits to households and to the local community to verify social needs of the target audience, refer, follow up and (re)evaluate needs. 
  • Inform MFSS Officer on thematic curricula for behaviour change communication/awareness raising activities and areas to be developed. 
  • Implement activities and supervise volunteers in awareness raising activities using non-formal education methods with youth, women, adults etc.
Reporting responsibilities
  • Record all activities in the activity database. 
  • Produce weekly confidential activity reports for the attention of the MFSS Officer. 
  • Attend team meetings, activity planning sessions and relevant trainings as agreed with MFSS Officer.

About you 
 
To be successful in this role, you must have University degree or higher education relevant to business management, economic, law, political sciences, social sciences, or development field.
 
Moreover, we also expect the following: 
Required qualifications  
  • At least 3 years of proven experience in field-based humanitarian settings or in the private sector, including at least 1 year in Livelihood sector; 
  • Excellent analysis and report writing skills;  
  • Strong organisation skills;  
  • Proven experience in leading teams 
  • Ability to quickly develop good insight and understanding of the conflict, the human rights situation and the political environment of the program country; 
  • Fluency in the English language, both written and verbal and knowledge of Turkish or Arabic.  
  • Above average computer literacy 
Desirable qualifications 
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skill, with proven ability to create and utilize qualitative and quantitative analyses in organizational planning; 
  • Effective verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational, and prioritization skills are necessary; 
  • Ability to live and work closely with a diverse team of individuals in a highly intense and fluid work and security environment; 
  • Capacity to spark innovative approaches to programming and to inspire groups to collaborate closely to implement high-quality programs; 
  • Ability to navigate complex situations with diplomacy;

  • Confident and decisive leadership; 
  • Desire and ability to learn and grow, both personally and professionally; 
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members is required; 
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to professionally and appropriately represent the organization and negotiate and defend DRC’s interests with a diverse range of government officials, local organizations and other groups.

We offer 
 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a 09 months’ contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from 15 March 2017 and be willing and able to work in Şanlıurfa.
 
We offer a fair compensation package depending on your qualification and experiences as well as additional allowances such as relocation allowance and living allowances, if applicable. DRC Turkey is income tax exempted.
