Established in 2012 NRC Jordan’s long-term outlook addresses the problems affecting life as a refugee. We work to build the resilience of Syrians, and to relieve the impact on the Jordanian communities that host them.  Syrian refugees in Jordan are struggling. As they contend with difficult living conditions across the country, the obstacles are complex. They struggle to remain registered as refugees, to provide for their families, and to access essential services – including education for their children. The Jordanian communities that host them, meanwhile, feel the impact of hosting high numbers of refugees – with each year that passes, local infrastructure becomes more strained.

Role Specific Information

The Communications Multimedia Officer at NRC’s Protection, Advocacy and Communications Unit is part of a dynamic team consisting of two technical officers under the supervision of a Communications Coordinator. The Communication Multimedia Officer’s role is to create films for NRC, take pictures inside and outside the camps, and create multimedia products for use in different media to highlight NRC’s refugee response in Jordan and raise awareness about the Syrian refugees amongst the general public. 


Generic responsibilities:

  • Contribute to communications and media campaigns in support to the communication plan
  • Monitors progress of own activities
  • Feeds in the communication unit plans with technical experience and knowledge
  • Provides technical analysis, systems and tools in order to improve quality of communications
  • Ensures that official priorities are fed into communications work
  • Provides technical analysis and suggestions for communications work
  • Monitors the compliance with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines and proposes new initiatives to improve current work and bridge gaps
  • Identifies analyses, evaluates key processes in the implementation of related activities and makes recommendations for improvement.


Specific responsibilities:

  • Create films for NRC Jordan from start to the end, including writing the concept note, shooting, and editing
  • Create multimedia files for use on social media, NRC website, traditional media
  • Field visits to NRC programmes inside and outside the camps for collecting pictures and videos
  • Support communications unit with photo essays work
  • Create a database and collect monthly batches of photography for use by programmes
  • Scout, find and initiate contact with individuals whose stories NRC wants to highlight for a specific campaign or media interest
  • Contribute to and creates film footages, TV packages and other multimedia products as required
  • Support the Technical officer with the communications campaigns
  • Building the technical capacities of the media focal points in taking pictures and videos to ensure their contribution to the communication work

Our Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a university graduate with a minimum of 3 years previous experience in photography and film-making, Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities, Proven experience in motion graphics and multimedia work within the humanitarian sector or photo and film journalism is required, Working knowledge of English and Arabic, both written and verbal and Only candidates with proven multimedia background will be considered.

We are particularly looking for a positive individual with strong communication skills, who can build trust and confidently navigate both internally and externally at different levels.
