Who are we? 
Danish Refugee Council is a leading protection agency pursuing our mandate to protect and promote durable solutions to displacement-affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), DRC apply a regional approach with operational presence in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Iraq. 
Present in Iraq since 2003, DRC is today operational in the Kurdish governorates, in and around Baghdad and in several South-Central governorates. Focused both on the influx of Syrian refugees and the current IDP crisis, DRC is providing assistance in a range of sectors including Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Protection, Livelihoods, Emergency Response (including food security, cash, and NFIs), WASH, Shelter and Mine Action. The Iraq programme presently employs some 450 national staff and 45 international staff, and is growing to meet new, emerging needs associated with ongoing and recent conflict in multiple locations. 
 
About the job 
Under the supervision of the Head of Office (HoO), the PPM is responsible for the planning, implementation and follow up of the protection projects in the assigned area.  
In close coordination with the Senior Protection Coordinator (SPC), the PPM contributes to the harmonization of protection tools and guidelines across the country and to the development of DRC’s Protection Strategy of Iraq. 
The PPM contributes to the fulfilment of the aims and objectives of DRC’s presence in Iraq. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities 
• Ensure timely and technically sound planning, implementation and follow up of protection activities/projects, including budgets;  
• Prepare and maintain up to date work plans and expenditure plans, in line with project and budget documents; 
• Prepare and submit regular qualitative and analytical reports within the given timeframes; 
• Recruit, provide supervision and coaching/on the job training of the protection project staff, and undertake appraisals when appropriate; 
• Organize regular field/onsite visits to ensure technical support to the staff and proper monitoring of the activities’ implementation; 
• Ensure that project activities develop and are implemented in line with DRC’s mandate, policies, procedures and country strategy, as well as with donors’ requirements and international protection guidelines; 
• Contribute to the development of proposals to secure follow on or expansion funding for the protection program as per identified needs;  
• Contribute to refine data collection, monitoring and reporting tools, and to harmonize protection methodologies and tools across the country; 
• Ensure Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) approach to protection is consistently applied through community and right base participatory methods;  
• Ensure the respect of DRC’s Code of Conduct, confidentiality and humanitarian principles within the protection team; 
• Contribute to the integration of protection and AGD mainstreaming into DRC programming; 
• Represent DRC in protection related working groups and other meetings with national, local and international actors in the assigned geographical area.  
• Prepare regular and timely updates for supervisors and relevant colleagues on key developments which can have an impact on protection environment; 
• Any other duties as agreed with the Head of Office. 
 
About you 
To be successful in this role you must have: 
 
Essential qualifications:  
• University degree or higher education relevant to humanitarian work: preferably in law, social sciences or humanitarian aid; 
• Significant knowledge of International Humanitarian and Human Rights Laws, particularly with Refugee Law and of international standards relating to the protection of IDPs;  
• Cultural and gender sensitivity, adaptability 
 
Essential experience:  
• Proven experience of at least 3 years in international protection, advocacy work, and emergency programs with displaced populations;  
• At least 2 years of experience in international humanitarian work in conflict settings 
• Experience with managing teams and providing technical guidance and training 
• Prior experience working with the clusters and/or coordination mechanisms 
• Prior experience in protection monitoring and/or assessment programming 
 
Desirable qualifications:  
• Proven communication, interpersonal, representation, negotiation, promotion and diplomacy skills, 
• Proven analytical and writing skills, 
• Ability to work under own initiative and with little supervision; 
• Ability to quickly develop good insight and understanding of the conflict, the human rights situation and the political environment of the program country 
 
Desirable experience:  
• Knowledge and experience of work both in and out of formal and informal camps. 
• Knowledge and experience of child protection in emergencies

We offer 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a 4 month contract subject to extension based on performance and funding. You must be available to start work mid-May 2017 and be willing to live and work in Iraq. 
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Expatriates; please refer to www.drc.ngo under Vacancies. This position will be placed at A15 on DRC’s salary scale. The R&R cycle for Erbil is every 12 weeks.
