The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization experienced in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. In the light of the high influx of migrants to the Greek islands, NRC has started an emergency response programme on the island of Chios in mid-October 2015. NRC directly assisted over 70,000 refugees and migrants, working together with the Greek authorities, humanitarian actors and volunteers to set up and maintain a dignified and efficient flow of refugees from arrival at the beach, via registration and reception facilities, to departure by boat or plane to mainland Greece. NRC Thessaloniki is now looking forward to cover the position of the Shelter/Wash Team Leader to respond to the humanitarian needs.
The purpose of a Team Leader (TL) is to manage a Shelter/WASH project team at field office level. The work will focus on the maintenance of camp buildings and infrastructure and the management o hygiene promotion activities. The TL will have a significant role to play in liaising with authorities and camp management personnel and also with suppliers of both goods and services. The TL will ensure the correct use of NRC for the supply of critical items and services to beneficiaries.
Implement plan of action for delegated portfolio of projects (activities, budget and project documentation)
Day to day follow-up of project implementation
Ensure compliance with NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need, and explore and asses new and better ways to assist
Promote and share ideas for technical improvement
Prepare periodic progress reports and other documents
Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
Liaison and collaborate with relevant local authorities and stakeholders
Promote the rights of beneficiaries in line with the advocacy strategy
Manage the maintenance of camp buildings and infrastructure
Manage Non-Food Item (NFI) distributions
Manage Hygiene promotion activities
Manage Shelter/WASH staff and follow relevant HR/Admin procedures
Work in close collaboration with Camp Management teams to ensure beneficiaries are provided with adequate services
Ensure close and productive relationships with other NRC departments (eg Logistics, Finance, HR/Admin), local authorities, suppliers/service providers, other humanitarian organizations and other stakeholders
Provide imaginative solutions to any problems arising out of NRC operations
Previous experience of working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
Fluency in English, both written and verbal
An understanding of the Refugee crisis in Greece, and in particular the Northern Greece camp context and key stakeholders
Fluency in Greek, both written and verbal
Strong organizational skills especially related to maintenance of buildings and infrastructure
