Under the guidance of the Chief of Child Survival and Development, the incumbent is accountable for professional leadership and innovation in the development, planning, implementation, delivery, monitoring, evaluation, evidence generation, capacity building and oversight management of the UNICEF’s Health and Immunization programme for Indonesia.

How can you make a difference?

Under the guidance of the Chief of Child Survival and Development, the incumbent is accountable for professional leadership and innovation in the development, planning, implementation, delivery, monitoring, evaluation, evidence generation, capacity building and oversight management of the UNICEF's Health and Immunization programme for Indonesia. The programme encompasses health systems strengthening; maternal, newborn and child health; communicable disease (HIV, malaria) and immunization. The incumbent will ensure close coordination with the Nutrition and Water and Sanitation (WASH) components within the CSD cluster as well as the related areas of communication for development and knowledge management within the country programme, to achieve objectives and goals set out by the UNICEF Indonesia Program.

The key responsibilities include:

  1. Timely and regular sectoral evidence based analysis using causality determinants framework for effective planning, implementation and results based management.
  2. Quality technical leadership and support are made to the development and implementation of the Health and Immunization strategies with a focus on reducing inequities through participation and collaboration with internal and external partnership.
  3. Multi Year work plan and related results addresses critical bottlenecks of the program and are timely delivered through exercise of strong leadership.
  4. Project implementation is monitored using a Results Framework and evaluated for adjustment, acceleration and improvement of program delivery and sustainability.
  5. Effective communication, networking, leveraging are achieved through partnerships and close collaboration with government, UN Agencies, Bilateral Agencies, development partners and NGOs.
  6. Effective knowledge management is ensured through technical leadership, coordination, partnerships and guidance in operational research, proper documentation and dissemination of lessons learned, best practices and innovations.
  7. UNICEF and Government accountability is ensured for supply and non-supply assistance and disbursement of programme funds for the sector.
  8. Integration of rights based, humanitarian principles, gender mainstreaming and disaster risk reduction and resilience in health programming.
  9. All required programme reports are timely prepared in compliance with the established guidelines and procedures.
  10. Emergency preparedness is maintained, and in emergencies, emergency responses with effective coordination are provided.
  11. Global initiatives such as but not limited to Sustainable Development Goals, Decade of Vaccine and Global Vaccine Action Plans are effectively promoted through policy dialogue and advocacy.

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master's or higher) in one of the disciplines relevant to the following areas: Medicine, Public Health, Paediatric Health, Global/International Health, Health Policy and Management, Family Health, Socio-medical Sciences, Health Education, Epidemiology, or other fields relevant to health and immunization.
    *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of eight years of professional work experience at the national and international levels in development, planning, programming, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and managing of health/Immunization programmes. Professional work experience in a managerial position, or a technical expert position in child survival & health care.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
