Acceptance for the programme shall not carry with it any expectation of employment with the OPCW.


Principal Functions

The OPCW offers internship opportunities to highly motivated applicants with an interest in gaining work experience in an international organisation. The programme provides internship placements at the Technical Secretariat for a period of normally three to six months. Being an intern with the OPCW provides valuable experience in a multi-cultural working environment and enables familiarisation with the operational procedures at an international level.

Additional Information

1. A monthly stipend of €450 (four hundred fifty euro) will normally be paid to participants of the Internship Programme.
Payment is subject to monthly certification of service by the Participant’s supervisor.

2. Participants in the Internship Programme receive no financial
remuneration from the OPCW for expenses that they incur in
relation to the programme. Costs and arrangements for travel,
visas, accommodation, living expenses and repatriation, etc. are the responsibility of the Participant. The Participant has to enter and exit the country in accordance with the applicable immigration procedures in The Netherlands.

3. Participants must have sufficient medical insurance (including coverage of costs of hospitalization for at least the duration of the internship plus one month) and third party liability insurance valid for the Netherlands for the period of their internship (both at their own cost). Participants are required to provide HRB with proof of both insurance provisions, should they be selected for an internship.

4. All interns must provide a medical certificate of good health from their doctor to the Health and Safety Branch prior to being offered an internship.

5. Interns will work according to the normal OPCW work pattern of no more than 40 hours a week.

6. Under normal circumstances interns who are citizens of non-EU countries should agree not to undertake other work in the Netherlands during their internship other than as an intern at the OPCW, notwithstanding whether such other work is compatible with the discharge of their functions with the OPCW. Interns may also be asked to provide proof that they have sufficient financial means for living expenses and repatriation.

Requirements

Knowledge and Skills

A citizen of an OPCW Member State and fluent in both written and spoken English.
Enrolled in a degree programme in a university (or equivalent tertiary institution) or in a graduate school (second university degree or higher) at the time of application, or have graduated from a university or a graduate school at the time of application to the Programme.

· Office of Strategy and Policy;
· Secretariat for the Policy-Making Organs;
· Inspectorate Division;
· Office of Internal Oversight;
Other offices as needed.

Languages

Fluency in English is essential and a good working knowledge of one of the other official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is desirable.
