We are looking for a professional photographer to document the situation of children and UNICEF’s work in Guinea Bissau. The main deliverable will be a collection of high-quality photographs to be used for various communication purposes, including print and digital media.

In Guinea-Bissau since 1976, UNICEF has worked very closely with local government, NGOs and other organization to promote and guarantee the rights of children.

The purpose of the photo collection is to have a broad photo collection documenting the situation of children and UNICEF's work in Guinea-Bissau, especially in light of the new Country Programme 2016-2020.

The photo collection will be used in the production of printed material such as posters, flyers, brochures, folders, and digital material such as website and social media platforms to leverage and engage UNICEF's audiences, partners and donors.

The consultant hired for this service must be a professional photographer with demonstrated field experience. At the same time, the photographer must be sensitive and respectful of people, situations and cultural differences.

We are looking for a professional photographer to document the situation of children and UNICEF's work in Guinea Bissau. The main deliverable will be a collection of high-quality photographs to be used for various communication purposes, including print and digital media.

Assignment Tasks:

Activities, tasks, deliverables and timelines

Main deliverables: 

Approximately 600 high-quality photographs (each photo must be delivered in three format: raw, high and low resolution), including extended captions.

The photos will reflect the situation of children and UNICEF's work in Guinea-Bissau in the following programme areas:

1) Education

2) Child and Maternal Health (including vaccination, community health work, ante-natal visits, nutrition, prevention against HIV/AIDS)

3) Water Sanitation and hygiene

4) Child Protection

5) UNICEF partnerships (Communities, government officials, community leaders etc.)

6) Cross cutting issues (UNICEF and Government Staff at work, Families, role of the father)

The geographic areas and the schedule of activities will be defined by UNICEF in accordance with the availability of partners and people that will be photographed.

Extended captions must be provided for each photograph by embedding them directly into each image (in the IPTC fields), together with credit, copyright and other relevant information.

Extended captions must include: date, place, community or organization, short description of project, names of people, where relevant. In some cases, an image release may be required (UNICEF will provide the form).

The pictures and images must be in accordance with the guidelines of the UNICEF Brand Toolkit (to be shared by UNICEF)

The pictures and images produced will be the property of UNICEF.

Photographer supplies all photographic equipment and agrees to provide, if requested,

Transmissions of rough edit selections of best images, with complete caption information.

The photographer will also undertake a one day training on photography to UNICEF staff

Timeframe and Payment:

Timeframe:

The schedule and the work period will be agreed with UNICEF Communication team in Guinea-Bissau in accordance to this scheme: 10 working days of field-work and 8 working days of home-based postproduction work. This scheme can be changed in accordance with the UNICEF needs.

Payment:

Payment Terms: This consultancy comprises the payment of daily contract fees on satisfactory completion of assignment and delivery of the pictures.

UNICEF recourse in case of unsatisfactory performance: Payment will only be made for work satisfactorily completed and accepted by UNICEF.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

Education

  1. A University Degree in Journalism, Public Relations or other Communication field is required.
  2. A minimum of five years of professional experience in photography and editing of images at international level is required.

Language

    Fluency in French or English is required. Fluency in Portuguese is an asset.

Years of relevant experience

  1. Experience with social and development issues relevant to UNICEF's work.
  2. Experience with international development and field work.
  3. Broad portfolio of creative and high quality artwork.

Conditions of work

  1. UNICEF will provide transport to and from the airport and any other transport needs to service in field.
  2. UNICEF will not provide computer or any other equipment. The consultant is expected to use his/her own up to date equipment and software, including camera.
  3. During the period of the consultancy in Bissau, UNICEF can provide adequate office space if needed.
  4. DSA will be paid upon arrival to Bissau and in accordance to the UN DSA rate valid at the date of the consultancy.
