The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

NRC Humanitarian Trainee Programme

Who is NRC?

What is NRC’s Trainee Programme?

NRC’s trainee programme is a development package designed for early-career humanitarian professionals, which offers participants the opportunity to follow a structured 12 month curriculum, combining classroom learning, with mentoring and on-the-job training. Participants will benefit from tailored training opportunities and early inclusion in the NRC field teams in a collaborative and supportive environment, responding to the needs of the world’s most vulnerable people.

Who should apply to NRC’s Trainee Programme?

This programme is geared towards early-career humanitarians with a passion for improving the lives of refugees and other displaced persons forced to flee their homes. Prospective trainees should already have gained academic credentials and limited relevant experience in their chosen specialty.  Entrance into the programme is not limited by age, gender or nationality, in fact NRC welcomes diversity in all of its programming. 

Applicants for the NRC Trainee programme should have the following minimum requirements:

  • University degree in a relevant discipline, from an accredited institution;

  • Two years of relevant work experience in the respective functional area;

  • Willingness to serve in conflict zones and field locations.

  • A passion to serve the needs of refugees and displaced persons.

The selection and appointment process:

Applicants for the trainee programme will go through a comprehensive selection and appointment process, which includes:

  • Screening/shortlisting based on profile requirements;
  • Technical tests (languages, competency, etc.);
  • Video Interview;
  • Personality assessment;
  • Reference checks (professional and academic);
  • Skype Interview;
  • 4-6 week Induction;
  • Deployment to the field.

The recruitment and selection process is expected to take 2-4 months.  Successful candidates will be invited to join the programme induction commencing August 2017

 

Trainee Grants Officer (External applicants only)

The NRC Trainee Programme is currently accepting applications from candidates with experience and interest in the area of Grants.

 

Role and responsibilities

Generic responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date overview of all grants and internal and external deadlines, including filing of grant documents (including through the grants overview & tracker);
  • Assist in the development of concept notes and project proposals, particular through gathering and collating relevant information from a variety of sources;
  • Assist the process of compiling reports (external and internal) in close collaboration with Project Managers and the M&E unit, to ensure accurate, transparent and timely reporting;
  • Stay updated on donor priorities and track and share relevant calls for proposals;
  • Support improvement of internal grant management systems and processes.

 Specific responsibilities

  • Develop, populate and maintain and grant management tools;
  • Support the organization, planning and facilitation of mandatory and best-practice Project Cycle Management  activities, such as proposal development planning meetings and grants opening, review & closure meetings;
  • Ensure the documentation of grant-related meetings and workshops;
  • Create tools to guide grants management processes (such as proposal development and progress reporting), including grants calendar, reporting templates (for partners), etc.;
  • Produce programmatic factsheets for external usage.
  • Maintain an accessible and well-organized filing system for storing all grant-specific files for all of NRC Turkey’s past and active grants.

 

Our ideal candidate for this role:  

We are looking for candidates with an academic background and/or experience relevant to the position and who also have an interest and/or prior experience working within humanitarian and development response.  Excellent written and oral communication skills in English are mandatory as well as a high proficiency in the use of Excel and above average computer skills for Words and other applications.

We are particularly looking for positive individuals with a strong commitment to developing their skills and contributing to the greater mandate of NRC.
