The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been implementing projects for Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees in Northern Uganda, West Nile and South Western respectively, since 1997. Having smoothly phased-out by end of August 2014 in the North, NRC reopened from September 2014, to compliment efforts of the Government of Uganda and UNHCR in supporting the South Sudanese Refugees currently settled in the Districts of Adjumani and Arua in West Nile. With funding from UNHCR, SIDA, NMFA, ECHO, NRC is implementing integrated projects in Yumbe/Adjumani/Arua refugee settlements. NRC now seeks to fill the position of Information Technology (IT) Officer to be based in Adjumani.
IT Officer is mainly responsible for the smooth running of computer systems, equipment, and connectivity; back up, communication system, ensuring users get maximum benefits from them..
NRC may be required to verify the identity of its partners/employees and to check that its partners/employees have not been involved in illegal activities. NRC reserves the right to use electronic screening tools for this purpose

Job description

Provide technical support to operational computer systems and networks.
Undertake systems analysis and/or systems design related to computer systems programming tasks.
Liaise with users /clients and provide advice/troubleshooting on a range of IT problems.
Evaluate and report on the operating efficiency of all computer systems, office equipment and other communications systems.
Supervise service providers undertaking the development of or maintenance of equipment, computer systems and internet networking.
Investigate and report on the application of new information technology and information technology techniques.
Provide technical input in the purchase and disposition of computers and Office equipment
Train and support staff on computer and online systems

Qualifications

Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer science, Systems engineering or related field
Additional certifications & qualifications in areas of computer networking and hardware, computer software development, internet engineering and related will be an added advantage
Certification in and good knowledge of Computer software and applications for Microsoft, Linux and Cisco technologies is of added advantage
2 years of experience in Information technology or similar work
Experience working in a humanitarian and volatile context
