Purpose of the Position

The purpose of this post is to collect and provide timely, objective, accurate and reliable information on violations and abuses committed against children affected by armed conflict such as: recruitment and use of children in forces and armed groups; killing and maiming; abduction; destruction of schools and hospitals; sexual violence and denial of humanitarian access.

Key Expected Results

1. Draft bimonthly, annual country reports and ad-hoc reports as required

2. Ensure the sharing of information system with key actors of the Country Task Force and act as the secretary

3. Develop a situation analysis based on information collected under the framework of the Monitoring/ Reporting mechanism and objectives. The situation analysis should provide a brief overview of the context, documented information on the six categories of abuse and provide identifiable trends

4. Elicit the participation of actors from civil society and NGOs in activities of the Task Force and in the operation of the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism

5. Propose next steps towards linking the data collection to the Monitoring and Reporting Mechanism and identifying where new data collection mechanisms need to be established

6. Identify and support means through which the data collection systems can be improved

7. Conduct field visit to monitor implementation of the Monitoring and Reporting standards and mechanism as well as quality standards

8. Support responses to information needs from the Security Council Working Group, including eventual field visits 

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

1. Education

Advanced university degree on Social Sciences or related field.

*First university degree with additional two-years of relevant work experience is acceptable in lieu of an advanced university degree.

2. Work Experience

Five years of professional experience in advocacy related to human rights or protection issues, reporting, and analysis with an international dimension, preferably with some experience working with the legal and social protection of children. Professional experience in a post P conflict/transitional setting

3. Language

Fluency in French and English are required.
