The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Position: EDUCATION Coordinator
Reports to: Project Development Manager
Supervision of: Education staff in Ankara & Gaziantep
Duty station: Ankara
Travel: 20%
Duration and type of contract: 9-month contract

Job description

  • GENERIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Line management of education project field staff
  • Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
  • Contribute to education strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps
  • Manage and implement delegated portfolio of education projects (activities, budget and project documentation) as delegated from PDM in line with proposals, strategies and donor requirements, and ensure high technical quality.
  • Provide regular progress reports to PDM.
  • Ensure that projects target beneficiaries most in need of protection, explore and assess new and better ways to assist
  • Promote and share ideas for improvement and necessary changes in the activities
  • Ensure capacity building of project staff and transfer key skills
  • Liaise and collaborate with relevant local authorities and other key stakeholders
  • Promote the rights of refugees in line with the advocacy strategy
  • SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • With the PDM, assist in development of new project activities
  • Ensure ongoing review and monitoring to enable improvement of projects
  • Monitor concerns of refugees in order to adapt project implementation
  • Supervision of the education officers to implement NRC’s education program
  • Ensure that activities are in line with budget lines and limitations
  • Implement HR related processes (recruitment, orientation, training, performance appraisal) with respect to the Education Staff.
  • Ensure compliance by the Education Staff with NRC’s Human Resource, Financial, Logistics & Security policies and procedures;
  • Ensure that education activities are in accordance with NRC and Turkey norms and standards
  • Liaise with the Turkish authorities (namely MoNE and Governors) and Civil Society Organizations
  • Follow-up necessary approvals from governmental authorities to implement the project;
  • Ensure a strong relationship with project partners
  • Regularly attend relevant Sector coordination meetings in the area of operation to represent NRC, gather and share information with partners, advocate on behalf of vulnerable displaced children and their families;
  • Work in coordination with M&E staff to ensure activities fits with the overall aim and objectives of the project
  • Support the education team to create/develop/implement necessary trainings for teachers, social workers and other relevant staff
  • Pro-actively work to prevent fraud or corruption by working ensuring adherence to NRC guidelines on fraud prevention with relevant line managers to improve transparency and to ensure the best use of NRC assets and resources
  • Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line manager

Qualifications

  • PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Generic professional competencies for this position:
  • Experience from working in an education project implementation position (preferably as a coordinator) in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal
  • Context related skills, knowledge and experience:
  • Knowledge of informal education in Turkey
  • Knowledge of the Arabic an asset
  • Experience with starting new projects
  • University degree on education/pedagogy related area or social sciences;
  • At Least 4-5 years of experience in non-formal or informal based training with children;
  • Experience working with Syrian refugees is desirable;
  • Extensive knowledge of the political and humanitarian situation in the target areas
  • Understanding of cross-cutting issues, such as gender, protection, youth and environment;
  • Understanding of humanitarian/civil society issues in Turkey
  • Advanced computer skills, especially in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook;
  • Turkish nationality.
