UNICEF continues to support the acceleration of Elimination of Mother-to-Child transmission of HIV (EMTCT), pediatric ART and prevention and treatment of HIV among adolescents in 24 countries in West and Central Africa Region (WCAR). Some countries are implementing promising approaches in HIV and data are available while they are rarely shared. To further inform fast-tracking HIV response in the region, UNICEF is planning to support the evidence generation and knowledge sharing of the HIV response in WCAR to inform advocacy, policy guidance at country, regional and global levels. It is in this context that UNICEF is looking for experienced local consultant to support this work. The consultant will provide direct technical support to the HIV/AIDS Section to implement strategic activities focusing on evidence generation and dissemination, knowledge management and sharing. The Consultant will be based in the HIV/AIDS Section at UNICEF’s West and Central Africa Regional Office located in Dakar, Senegal. Working directly with the HIV team and will collaborate with other sections (Health, Nutrition, Child Protection and Planning and Monitoring) as instructed by the supervisor. The consultant will help to document and disseminate evidence with the aim of increasing the visibility of UNICEF’s work, mobilizing resources, promoting learning and improving the quality of the regional and country programs.

Purpose of the Assignment

The overall objective is to assist in overall coordination of knowledge management, advocacy and communication activities on HIV/AIDS

 The Specific Responsibilities are:

    • Assist in development, writing and editing key publications and advocacy assets on EMTCT, Paediatric and Adolescent HIV, HIV-sensitive programming, Family-Centered Care and integration of services with MNCH, produced by the UNICEF and partners as needed.
    • Contribute to design and administrate the regional dashboard platform for real-time monitoring of the implementation of country roadmaps to fast track eMTCT and HIV pediatric care.
    • Co-ordinate, monitor, update and support external and internal content creation, including news, stories and updates for sharing via webinars, websites, newsletters, etc.
    • Contribute to special projects and research on EMTCT, HIV-sensitive programming, Family-Centered Care, Paediatric and Adolescent HIV and integration of services within MNCH, conduct literature reviews and tool/template development, as needed.
    • Assist in the preparation of regional meetings and conferences related to children and HIV
    • Support development of proposals for resource mobilization to support HIV response in WCAR.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

Education

  • Advanced degree in the following: public health, epidemiology, demography, medical sciences or related sciences,

Years of relevant experience

  • Five years or more of experiences in planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in the field of HIV/ AIDS and/ or RH/MNCH
  • Strong writing and organizational skills
