These Terms of Reference describe the role of a part-time Communication Consultant (Special Events), BBS.

Scope of Work:

Under the supervision of the Chief, the consultant will support the Section in its development, promotion and production of campaigns, and events, with a focus on World Children's Day (WCD). The consultant will also assist with research and administration tasks to support the activities of the Section.

Responsibilities including, but not limited to:

  • Assists with the development, promotion and distribution of public-facing initiatives including WCD;
  • Assists with event-management of WoCD, GWA, campaign or OED-related events;
  • Conducts research on campaigns, events and grand;
  • Support the BBS in the development and implementation of the WCD. 
  • Other ad-hoc research, analysis and reporting as needed, to support UNICEF's global communication initiatives.
  • Support the strategic planning of WCD campaign calendar.
  • Manage a group of WCD campaign volunteers.
  • Assist with WCD campaign logistics and meeting schedules.
  • Support organization and management of campaign files, correspondence and assets
  • Support research of target audiences, influencers, partners and individuals for WCD.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Research and preparation of presentations, background briefs and M&E reports designed to help identify strategic opportunities to leverage UNICEF's global communication initiatives, for WCD, 2017 Events and Brand.

Duty Station: (if NYHQ please include if the consultant will work onsite or offsite)The consultancy will be based in New York and the consultant will work on-site.

Travel: (if any during length of assignment) No travel is expected for this assignment.

Supervisor and timeframes for reviewing milestones and performance:Supervisor: David Ohana, BBS Chief, DOC. A mid-term performance review will be conducted followed by a final performance review upon completion of the assignment.

Performance indicators for evaluation of results: (e.g. timeliness, value of services rendered in relation to their costs, etc.)

  • Quality and quantity of written materials produced
  • Accuracy, depth and relevance of information provided
  • Quality and sustainability of working relations
  • Timeliness of response to requests for support

 Qualifications or specialized knowledge/ experience required:

  • University degree in Branding, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyse information.
  • One year work experience in a professional capacity in Communications, Branding, Marketing or Public Relations.
  • Experience working in the development sector, government or NGO a plus.
  • Effective writing skills
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment
  • Evidence of high levels of quality and productivity
  • Ability to operate Mac and PC computer systems and applications.

Duration: Part-time for 6 months starting mid-April 2017 for a maximum of 55 working days (with possibility of extension to full time hours). Please note that consultants are not paid for UN holidays.
