If you are a committed, creative professional and are passionate about making a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you.

For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. The world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.

Background & Rationale

UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. Delivering and sustaining results for children requires action by both governments and the public at large.  At the most fundamental level, demographic patterns, trends and changes, for example, population structure, number of births and children, and adolescent fertility rate, have important implications for global, regional and national actions to help realize the rights of all of children, and foster inclusive and sustainable development. The international community has recognized that demographic trends are essential to be taken into account for programming and planning but more needs to be done to better understand potential demographic trends.

In order to provides key data and analysis on demographic trends, and raise policy issues that foster discussion and influence decisions, the Division of Data, Research and Policy at UNICEF started the Generation 2030 project and published a report in 2014 to provide an in-depth analysis of child demographic trends in Africa and contextualize some of these trends. Further analysis is needed on the demographic trends and the appropriate socio-economic-environmental policies as the organization prepares to launch the second edition of the report, and to also support the content needs of the emerging global solution networks and civil society engagement on child demographics in Africa.  The Division is also planning to have similar reports/brochures for other regions to highlight potential demographic changes, challenges and opportunities. The primary purpose of the consultancy is to support the development of the Generation 2030 series reports and brochures. The secondary purpose of the consultancy is to support demographic analysis as needed and requested.
