Executive Assistant to Secretary General

As the Executive Assistant to the Secretary General of Amnesty International you will play an essential role in enabling the Secretary General to execute his role as global leader of the Amnesty International movement and Chief Executive of the International Secretariat.

The role involves providing a high quality of operational support to the Secretary General in a fast-paced environment, working across a wide variety of human rights projects and activities. You will act as a gatekeeper for the Secretary General, liaising with the offices of heads of government, prominent personalities and major donors, and you will be in frequent contact with Amnesty International offices and national sections across the world.

In this complex and critical position, you must take responsibility for carrying out high level professional servicing and support for the Secretary General, to enable the effective planning, coordination, scheduling and delivery of his priorities.

The Office of the Secretary General (OSG) supports the Secretary General with his duties, providing high-level strategic and operational advice and practical support including appointment coordination, planning and evaluation, and high-level communications. OSG also serves as a critical interface between the Secretary General and the wider Amnesty movement, International Secretariat staff and public.

To provide the high quality of support required in this post, you will have significant experience in providing high-level executive support at CEO level or equivalent, ideally in an organisational with a similar scale and complexity as Amnesty International.

You will be comfortable working in a global organisation, with extensive experience working across cultures, time zones and languages.

As the first point of contact for the Secretary General, you will be highly relational and an excellent communicator. Fluency in English is essential, and additional language skills are desirable.

You will be able to demonstrate exceptional organisational skills, and a high degree of competence in managing a complex and frequently changing schedule. Experience and competence in coordinating international travel and events are essential. You will have excellent time management skills and an ability to work effectively within a small team.

You can demonstrate the political judgement and discretion to manage sensitive human rights and organizational information, and the initiative and discipline necessary for working with conflicting priorities and complex activities within a short timeframe on a daily basis.
