The Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) of the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is the global leader in the provision of data, information and analysis on internal displacement.  IDMC monitors all situations of internal displacement, provides quantitative estimates of the numbers of IDPs worldwide, and develops research and analysis which seeks to better inform policy and operational decisions that affect the lives of internally displaced people The Coordinator for IDMC's flagship report on internal displacement, the Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID), will lead the development and coordinate the production of the annual report.

Job description

• Coordinate of the production of IDMC’s Global Report on Internal Displacement (GRID), including development of concept notes, identification of key issues and new research partners, management of research and policy relationships.
• Lead the development and set-up of a 2-year production cycle for the annual GRID.
• Provide substantive support to policy research and coordination, analysis of relevant regional and global policies, strategies and frameworks.
• Represent IDMC at external meetings including giving presentations and holding seminars and workshops with universities, UN agencies, national and regional research institutions and other relevant bodies.
• Guide research partners and manage consultants in the development of studies, conduct primary and secondary research, draft case studies, background papers and sections of the report.
• Establish and manage a multi-tier peer review process, liaise with relevant advisory functions (research steering committee/ editorial board), provide support to the Director in convening the GRID Advisory Board, and oversee editing process for GRID and associated products.
• Contribute to the development of concepts, terminology and methodology for understanding the underlying drivers of displacement and displacement risk.
• Lead on the development of content for the GRID website and support the Communications Department in developing a communications strategy for the GRID.
• Plan and coordinate, in close collaboration with the Communications Department, the global GRID launch and national and regional follow-up with media, social media and partners.
• Support the Head of Policy and Research in the day-to-day management of the GRID budget.
• Contribute to proposal development and timely report on GRID-related activities and spending.
• Perform other duties in the department as appropriate.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in international development, political science, development economics, sociology, humanitarian affairs or related field.
• Knowledge of internal displacement the context in conflict, violence, disasters and development, or relevant knowledge and experience in international development, development economics, conflict, climate change or disaster research.
• Significant relevant experience managing complex programmes or research projects and producing analytical reports
• Experience of coordinating complex research projects with a large number of external partners
• Experience of working with a diversity of institutions, including universities, UN agencies, NGOs, national research institutes etc
• Ability and desire to develop networks and engage with new partners for research and policy influencing
• Proven ability to convey complex problems in accessible concepts and terms, both verbally and in writing
• Proven ability to clearly communicate research findings and their global and regional policy relevance
• Ability to apply judgement in cooperation with partners, plan own work and manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
• Attention to detail and ability to question, understand and evaluate quantitative and qualitative research on internal displacement
• Outstanding writing skills
• Strong initiative and collaborative working style
• Fluency in English, both written and verbal – knowledge of another official UN language a plus
• Knowledge of basic concept of risk modelling a plus
