How can you make a difference?

The Executive Assistant, GS-5, Division of Human Resources, New York HQ, #1703 will support the DHR Directorate Office, primarily the Deputy Director, towards the implementation of the Office's initiatives and projects and will assist in human resource activities in accordance with established workplans. You will also play a role in assisting DHR senior leaders in breaking down silos, working across sections as well as HR functions, and partnering with stakeholders inside and outside global HR community and UNICEF to bring about transformational change. Some of the key functions will involve:

  • Maintain the Deputy Director's calendar and schedule appointments, screen telephone calls and maintain discretion. Provide the same service to other senior leaders of the Division when required.
  • Manage travel arrangements including briefing materials
  • Prepare official correspondence for the Deputy Director, log and route correspondence and maintain a follow-up system. Ensure quality assurance in all the documents to be signed by Deputy Director
  • Arrange and coordinate meeting arrangement, including agenda and briefing notes
  • Prepare notes and presentations upon request.
  • Support in implementing HR activities to teams and solicit and compile documents/reports on HR areas from DHR sections for the attention of senior leaders.
  • Assist in procurement activities, invoice processing and logistic arrangements for Division events.


The HR Assistant, GS-5, Regular Recruitment Section, Division of Human Resources, New York HQ, #11878 will be responsible for a full range of activities related to vacancy management, talent acquisition and recruitment activities.

  • Conduct preliminary screening of applicants against established criteria taking into account qualifications, field of work, post requirements and eligibility to apply.
  • Arrange internal and external advertisement of vacancies in consultation with hiring offices using established format and language.
  • Prepare documentation related to assessments and recommendations as well as regret and offer letters to candidates.
  • Provide guidance to hiring offices and candidates regarding recruitment policies and staffing best practices.
  • Correspond with various internal and external partners for the purpose of gathering and disseminating information in response to staff queries.
  • Other administrative functions as required.


To qualify as a Champion for every Child you will have…

  • Completion of secondary education, preferably supplemented with technical or university courses related to the work of UNICEF.
  • A minimum of 5 (five) years of relevant experience in providing progressively responsible administrative support services.
  • Working knowledge of UNICEF systems, policies and procedures is considered an asset.
  • Strong writing, interpersonal and communications skills are required. 
  • Passing the GGST Exam (Global General Service Test) or UN ASAT in English is required.
  • Non-US candidates must be in possession of a US G4 visa or be a US permanent resident/citizen.
  • Fluency in English is required.  Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
