Under the overall guidance of the Senior Adviser and Technical Leader, Programme Cluster, the position leads and coordinates the UNICEF response to the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) and paediatric HIV care, support and treatment (CST) within the overall framework of maternal, newborn and child health

How can you make a difference?

Under the overall guidance of the Senior Adviser and Technical Leader, Programme Cluster, the position leads and coordinates the UNICEF response to the prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV (PMTCT) and paediatric HIV care, support and treatment (CST) within the overall framework of maternal, newborn and child health. The staff member will provide policy, technical and programming guidance for the scaling up and quality assurance of UNICEF's work in PMTCT and paediatric HIV care and treatment. As team leader for UNICEF's response to PMTCT and paediatric HIV CST, the incumbent will coordinate the work of different staff members, to promote the delivery of comprehensive programmes. The staff member will also represent UNICEF in the Start Free working group to advance elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV.

The key responsibilities are:

  • Managerial leadership;
  • Regional/country technical support;
  • Policy and strategy development and
  • Advocacy, networking and partnership building

To qualify as a champion for ending AIDS in children, you should  have:

  • An advanced university degree in health (MD, epidemiology + MPH, PhD or equivalent)
    *A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of relevant professional experience in a senior capacity at national and international levels in programme planning, management. Knowledge of international health organizations is an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.
