If you are a committed, creative professional and are passionate about making a lasting difference for children, the world's leading children's rights organization would like to hear from you.

For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. The world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.

Background & Rationale

High-fertility rates and rising numbers of women of reproductive age mean that given current trends, over the next 35 years nearly 2 billion babies will be born in Africa, the continent’s population will double in size, and its under-18 population will increase by two thirds, to almost a billion children. National action plans must adapt to these demographic shifts. Generation 2030 / Africa calls specifically for expanded access to reproductive health services, girls’ education and empowerment, and stronger civil registration and vital statistics systems.

The Division of Data, Research and Policy, is developing Generation 2030 / Africa 1.0 and Generation 2030 / Asia reports using a similar approach employed by the global edition of the Generation 2030 / Africa report. The objective is to focus on child demographic shifts in the years running up to 2030 and beyond, providing key data and analysis, and raising policy issues that will foster debate and discussion and influence decisions in coming years. This will enable UNICEF to position itself so that it can best address children’s needs and respond to upcoming challenges. The reports will also aim to identify a set of innovative policy recommendations that will be particularly important to generate momentum and support (both public and politically) for UNICEF to push an agenda forward for most vulnerable children.
