The National Child Protection Policy for Educational Settings states that child protection is a priority for every school and must be at the core of all of their activities. The First Grade Early Risk Assessment was initiated in the year 2014 by Ministry of Education under the National Child Protection Policy for Educational Settings was endorsed. The main purpose of the risk assessment is to identifying pupils who are at risk or potential risk harm and taking appropriate action to ensure the students are safe both at home and school which is critical to create a safe learning environment in schools.
The designated child protection liaison officer and deputy liaison officer from all schools were trained to conduct the risk assessment. All schools undertook the risk assessment for the new students who joined grade one in the years 2015 and 2016. However, due to the limited capacity at the Ministry Education had not been able to run a thorough analysis of the data sets.
