Danish Demining Group/Danish Refugee Council (DDG/DRC) is advertising for a highly qualified, self-motivated Community Liaision Officer,Team Leader to join the DDG team in Tunisia.   
 
Who are we?
 
Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an international non-governmental organisation, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by vulnerable people affected by conflict and instability all over the world.  Danish Demining Group (DDG) is the branch of DRC that focuses on human security programming.  DDG strives to identify safety and security needs from the perspective of those living with conflict and to help them find non-violent solutions.  These go beyond traditional mine action activities to include Armed Violence Reduction (AVR).  AVR programming specifically seeks to engage communities in developing durable solutions to local safety and security challenges.    
 
DRC/DDG has been working in the region in Libya and Tunisia since 2011.  In 2014, DDG started a project in border towns in southeast Tunisia to address community security and resilience, aiming to improve relationships between communities and security providers and mitigate the risks facing local youth.    
 
With support from the European Commission and Canada, DDG recently entered a new phase of its programming, and is seeking a qualified Team Leader to support the projects.  
 
About the job 
 
The Team Leader, in coordination and cooperation with project staff, supervised by the Field Coordinator, is expected to: 
 
  1. Provide leadership in coordinating direct implementation of day-to-day project activities  
  2. Contribute to an active culture of organizational learning
  3. Manage and mentor program staff 
 
Duties and Responsibilities 
 
Programming 
 
  • Facilitate monthly and daily work planning for implementation of project activities 
  • Supervise and directly participate in day-to-day implementation of project activities  
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local stakeholders, including community leaders as well as security providers and civil authorities  
  • Facilitate ongoing conflict analysis and provide feedback to the Field Coordinator on changes in local conflict dynamics and possible impact on the programming 
 
Learning 
 
  • Ensure regular monitoring of project activities in coordination with M&E Officer 
  • Facilitate regular reporting and documentation of project activities 
  • Promote a culture of learning within the teams and actively share challenges and lessons learned 
 
Staff Management 
 
  • Line manage Community Liaison Officers and, when relevant, Community Mobilizers 
  • Ensure appropriate staffing for day-to-day implementation of project activities 
  • Identify staff needs and capacity building opportunities and provide ongoing mentorship 
  • Ensure timely performance management measures including appraisals and remedial actions, in coordination with the Field Coordinator and AVR Manager  
 
About you 
 
To be successful in this role you must have: 
 
  • At least 1 year of experience working with non-governmental organizations 
  • Extensive demonstrated experience working with communities

Required qualifications
 
  • A university degree in social science, political science, or related field 
  • Excellent writing and communication skills in English, Arabic, and French

We offer 
 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a 4 months’ contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from 19/06/2017 and be willing and able to work in Ben Guerdane, Tunisia.
 
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Expatriates; please refer to www.drc.ngo under Vacancies. This position will be placed at level D1.
