We are looking for a highly-qualified candidate fit to be a dedicated Team Leader able to manage the Protection team and contribute to the organization and Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Iraq programme Standard Operating Procedures.
 
Who are we? 
Danish Refugee Council is a leading protection agency pursuing our mandate to protect and promote durable solutions to displacement-affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), DRC apply a regional approach with operational presence in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Iraq.  
Present in Iraq since 2003, DRC is today operational in the Kurdish governorates, in and around Baghdad and in several South-Central governorates. Focused both on the influx of Syrian refugees and the current IDP crisis, DRC is providing assistance in a range of sectors including Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Protection, Livelihoods, Emergency Response (including food security, cash, and NFIs), WASH, Shelter and Mine Action. The Iraq programme presently employs some 450-national staff and 45 international staff, and is growing to meet new, emerging needs associated with ongoing and recent conflict in multiple locations. 
 
About the job:
The Protection Team Leader is responsible for ensuring excellent organization and coordination of all protection activities implemented within the Community Centre (CC) and at the field level in the geographical area of implementation. The CC provides information, counselling, vocational training and social activities to beneficiaries (women and children). The post holder reports to the Protection Project Manager. 
 
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Supervise effective, efficient and timely implementation of the project’s activities as discussed with the Project Manager and according DRC guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures.  
  • Line manage the Protection, Legal, Information and Psychosocial Officers in order that beneficiary data and Protection needs are collected, ,systematically recorded, analysed and followed up with activities or referrals according DRC protection and confidentiality guidelines. 
  • Prepare, implement and report regularly on the status of project work plans.Oversee delegated budget management and project indicator tracking in coordination with the Protection Project Manager. 
  • Manage internal staffing issues including attendance monitoring, leave plans and appraisals in coordination with the Protection Project Manager.  
  • Support the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation M&E plan in coordination with the DRC M&E team. 
  • Undertake ad hoc field visit to monitor the implementation of the activities and verify they are carried out in coherence with DRC SOPs. Report to the PPM any discrepancies. 
  • Participate in the selection process of the beneficiaries meeting DRC criteria for Cash and IGAs assistance. Ensure proper monitoring and follow up to evaluate the impact of such assistance. 
  • Provide logistics support and other tasks associated with efficient day-to-day running of the operations, including the provision of weekly movement plans. 
  • Ensure synergy with other DRC’s programme components in the area of responsibility. 
  • Provide regular timely internal reports and other relevant information on project activities and external meetings based on agreed formats and schedule 
  • Maintain close relations with all relevant stakeholders 
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Line Manager; 
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Iraq programme Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); 
  • Conduct duties in accordance with DRC Code of Conduct. 
  • Make sure to spread a positive image of DRC and its activities by explaining what DRC is doing and why DRC operates in that way. 
 
About you:
To be successful in this role you must have:  
  • Experience in management of a team. 
  • University degree in management, social sciences or similar field, or undergraduate degree with demonstrated strong experience; 
  • Relevant professional experience of not less than 3 (three) years.  
  • Excellent spoken and written English/Kurdish/Arabic and relevant computer skills. 
  • Familiarity/prior experience with DRC and its persons of concern (including internally displaced persons and refugees-returnees) would be a distinct advantage; 
  • A high respect to client/organisation confidentiality. 
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and respect for people with special needs and other vulnerability. 
  • Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player.

Desirable qualifications:
Ideally, you will also have… 
  • Advanced university degree would be an asset.  
  • Report writing skills. 
  • Experience of work in the UN or NGO or voluntary sector is preferred but not essential.  
  • Familiarity with international protection and human rights legal standards, with special emphasis on women rights and SGBV, would be a distinct advantage. 
 
We offer: 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a 6 Months contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. You must be available to start work from 1st June 2017 and be willing and able to work in Tikrit.
