Organizational Setting


The Department of Nuclear Safety and Security (NS) formulates and implements the IAEA's nuclear safety and security programme, which encompasses the IAEA's activities to protect people and the environment from radiation exposure, and responds to the needs of its Member States related to nuclear safety and nuclear security.


The Incident and Emergency Centre (IEC) is part of the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security and reports to the Deputy Director General, Head of the Department. The IEC serves as the IAEA's focal point for preparedness and response to nuclear and radiological incidents and emergencies regardless of their cause, and for strengthening Member States' preparedness for response.

Main Purpose


The Response System Information Technician provides technical and logistical support for the design, documentation, setup and regular maintenance of the technical infrastructure of the IEC. He/she will support the training to other IAEA staff members on the IEC Technician function. He/she will act as an IEC Technician during full response activations of the IEC.

Functions / Key Results Expected


  • Contribute to the development and implement maintenance of primary and back-up IT infrastructure (including videoconferencing) and the relevant IT arrangements of the IECs operational area.
  • Develop, update and maintain relevant procedures, checklists and instructions for response and regular maintenance of the IT infrastructure and equipment in the IECs operational area.
  • Provide training on relevant IT infrastructure and arrangements for relevant staff within the IES.
  • Manage the electronic storage environment and the procurement of IT equipment for the IEC.
  • Contribute to the enhancement and implement maintenance of the relevant operational infrastructure (telecommunications, power, network, video-display systems etc.) of the IECs operational area.
  • Document the setup of the IECs operational area and the equipment installed.
  • Provide support and relevant expertise to the IES and participate in associated training and exercises.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills


  • Completed secondary education.
  • Minimum six years of relevant working experience providing IT support to users in a LAN environment, including experience in an international environment.
  • Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.
  • English language test (Level 2) to IAEA standard.



The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 50052 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report. Recruitment will be on a LOCAL BASIS only. Testing may be part of the recruitment process.
