In order to ensure effective implementation, UNICEF requires a dedicated programme manager, accountable for overall coordination, planning, administration, and reporting on the UNICEF-USAID Service Efficiency and Effectiveness for Vulnerable Children and Adolescents programme.

The UNICEF Programme in Cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) is designed to address and mitigate the triple threat of poverty the country’s children face, while responding to the needs with interventions addressing the multiple causative factors.

In response to the combination these threats involve the Programme supports national efforts to improve service delivery in the key areas of: child health and nutrition and HIV and AIDS, quality basic education, water, sanitation and hygiene education, child protection and social policy, advocacy and communication.

How can you make a difference?

Under the guidance of the Chief of Child Protection, the incumbent is accountable for overall coordination, planning, administration, and reporting on the UNICEF-USAID Service Efficiency and Effectiveness for Vulnerable Children and Adolescents programme. The programme manager will ensure that planned activities are completed on time and to the agreed standards and budgets. He/she will also ensure that high levels of communication are maintained between UNICEF programs and between UNICEF and other partners. He/she will also be accountable for all programme-related reporting.

This will involve:

  1. Programme development and Management
  2. Monitoring, Evaluation, Research and Reporting
  3. Optimum Use of Programme Funds
  4. Partnership, Coordination and Collaboration


To qualify as an advocate for every child, you will have to have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Public Administration, International Development, Public Policy, Social Policy, Social Sciences, Community Development, or other relevant disciplines.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional work experience in development or public health programme coordination and management.
  • Minimum of 3 years developing country work experience, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Relevant experience in Child protection and/or social welfare is preferred.
  • Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is an added advantage.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) or the local working language of the duty station is an asset.
