Organizational Setting

 

The Department of Management (MT) provides a ‘platform of services’ that serves as a foundation for the successful delivery of the IAEA’s scientific and technical programmes. Its mission statement is as follows\: “MT is a partner and a business enabler that champions change and efficiency, leveraging a common purpose”. Thus, among other support activities, it assists a scientific manager in recruiting the right expert, helps a technical officer coordinate the purchase of radiation equipment, and ensures that all Board documents are translated and distributed on a timely basis to Member States.

The Division of General Services provides service functions throughout the IAEA such as travel and transport support, facilities management, archives and records management, and management of the VIC Commissary. It has five sections.

The Commissary Management Section manages the Commissary at the Vienna International Centre. The Commissary is a tax and duty-free store that is operated under the authority of the Director General of the IAEA. It was established as a self-sustaining and non-profit making operation in order to facilitate the purchase of limited quantities of consumer goods by the diplomats of Permanent Missions of Member States accredited to the UN organizations, staff members of the UN organizations based at the VIC as well as of other authorized organizations.


Main Purpose

 

Under the supervision of the Unit Head (S&W) and daily guidance of the Supervisor (Main Sales), working as a team member, the Sales Assistant (Wines and Spirits) actively sells the various products in the Wines and Spirits area, deals with customer queries, replenishes shelves, carries out cashier duties and performs other duties, as required.


Functions / Key Results Expected

 

  • Actively sell all products in the Wines and Spirits area; provide advice to customers regarding product suitability for individual requirements; respond to queries and special product-related requests of customers. Advise external companies’ representatives in setting up and running their promotion campaign stands in the Commissary.
  • Check the correctness of the product deliveries against the delivery papers and update the Goods Received Reports or identify discrepancies. Check and ensure all merchandise is equipped with proper barcode according to established procedures.
  • Carry out appropriate storage of products and their transfer to the sales floor as per merchandising guidelines.
  • Operate cash register and report problems to Supervisor. If required, collect change money from the bank and take cash intake to the bank.
  • Backstop for Information Desk Clerk if required and assist in the established book-stock adjustment procedures and take part in the yearly inventory taking.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

 

  • Completed secondary education.
  • Completed apprenticeship as a sales clerk in the retail industry an asset.
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in the field of wines and spirits sales. Familiarity with the extensive range of wines, spirits and other relevant products on the market.
  • Demonstrated experience in Customer Service.
  • Good health and physical fitness to carry out moderately strenuous work.
  • Good oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) and German is an asset.
  • English language test (level 2) and typing test (level 2) to IAEA standard.

Remuneration

 

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at EUR 32315 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), 6 weeks' annual vacation, pension plan and health insurance

Appointment is subject to a satisfactory medical report. Recruitment will be on a LOCAL BASIS only. Outside applicants are required to supply to the IAEA or to authorize it to seek all information relevant to their suitability for employment by the IAEA. Testing may be part of the recruitment process.
