The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) established its presence in Jordan in November 2012 in response to the conflict in Syria and resulting refugee influx. NRC Jordan currently employs over 450 national staff in Jordan is now one of the largest INGOs in the country. In 2017 the Country Office continues to focus on provision of protection, assistance and access to essential services for vulnerable Syrian refugees in formal camps and host communities. NRC strives to combine its programmatic activities with evidenced-based advocacy work focused on policy change and strong external communications and media engagement and. The Country Office also works to ensure safe and integrated programming through ensuring protection is effectively mainstreaming across all programming.

Role and responsibilities

the Livelihoods Project Manager position is to oversee the implementation of all food security and livelihood programs in Jordan. This is a new core competency for the Jordan country program. The main focus will be on project start up. Initial programming will focus on cash for work. 

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Oversee the recruitment and management of the GIZ cash for work project team and any subsequent livelihoods project teams
  • Ensure the timely launch and implementation of the GIZ cash for work project, including procurement; management of workers and design of beneficiary selection process.
  • Lead all coordination with partner organizations working on the project.
  • In coordination with the livelihoods PDM ensure strong working relations with GIZ.
  • Work actively with the livelihoods PDM to secure additional livelihoods funding.
