Responsibilities

Within delegated authority, the intern will be responsible for the following duties:
- Translates, for training and other purposes and subject to review, documents into English from one or more of the other official languages of the United Nations: Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish.
- Edits, subject to review, official documents in English.
- Drafts, subject to review, summary records of the proceedings of United Nations treaty bodies.
- Performs other related duties as required, including proofreading, terminological work, creation of translation memories and participation in other special projects.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
(b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent); or
(c) Have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, much commence the internship within a one year period of graduation.

• Be computer literate in standard software applications;

• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and

• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes willingness to understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme.

Languages

Fluency in English, which must be the candidate's main language, and knowledge of at least two other United Nations official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is required.
