The overarching strategic goal of UNICEF's ICT Division is to transform and build partnerships with our stakeholders to successfully implement UNICEF programmes globally through the use of innovative technology-enabled solutions.

 

The incumbent of this post will design and develop sophisticated, innovative and user-centered solutions for UNICEF’s different departments and stakeholders, focused primarily on UNICEF’s collaboration platform and custom-developed solutions. In addition, she or he will provide advice and guidance for all UI/UX elements for both web and mobile frameworks as supported by our Business Solutions Center. The incumbent will also be building and maintaining the different front-end elements to ensure the optimum rendering and functioning of the solutions produced and built by the Business Solutions Center. 

 

How can you make a difference?

 

  • Support the inception, technical design, development, testing, and delivery of web, mobile and hybrid solutions, with specific focus on the UI/UX aspects of these solutions. This will include high-impact interactive interfaces for UNICEF’s collaborative platform (including sites, social, mobile, and syndicated channels).
  • Coordinate with business analysts and project managers to understand business needs and requirements, and collaborate with other UNICEF ICT teams to deliver solutions that exceed expectations while meeting timelines and budget targets.
  • Using UI/UX best practices and standards, conduct user acceptance testing to evaluate the usability of the UI/UX elements of the products or solutions being built.
  • Provide input on new technology opportunities that will have an impact on enterprise-wide web and mobile systems.  Analyze and test new releases/versions of UI/UX related software. Conduct research and and interface with vendors to keep abreast of new frontend frameworks and tools.
  • Troubleshoot, monitor and analyze UI/UX performance issues and resolve inconsistencies. Provide guidance, training and coaching assistance to other team members.

 

To qualify as a champion for every child you will have…

 

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in computer science, software engineering, management information systems, information technology management or other related science field. A first University Degree in a relevant field combined with 2 additional years of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University Degree.
  • A minimum of 5 (five) years of relevant professional experience in an international development context is required.
  • Prior experience in designing and iterating on web and mobile applications, with proficiency exposure to quantitative and user behavior analysis. This includes expert skills with Adobe CS and UI/UX design tools (e.g. Axure, Omnigraffle, Balsamiq, Visio, etc.)
  • Prior experience in building highly visual and responsive dashboards, scorecards and translating complex requirements (business specifications, workflows and graphic designs) into a coherent user interface using wireframes and/or storyboards. Strong understanding of web accessibility, usability, maintainability, and organic search engine optimization.
  • Prior experience in different commercial and emerging UI/UX tools and technologies (e.g. AngularJS, D3, Dojo, KendoUI, JQuery, Bootstrap, HTML5, CSS3, etc.).
  • Prior experience in using different rendering modes and handling performance issues with browser (including profiling, debugging, and troubleshooting).
  • Prior experience architecting front-end technical solutions and leading UI/UX technical decisions, while driving product development process through prototype chain. 
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
