Organizational Setting

The Division of Energy Planning and Nuclear Information and Knowledge comprises the Planning and Economic Studies Section, Nuclear Knowledge Management Section and the Nuclear Information Section. The Division is responsible for strengthening capacities in energy and nuclear power planning, building capacities to manage nuclear knowledge and provide knowledge management services to interested member states, and to procure and provide printed and electronic information in the area of nuclear science and technology.

The Nuclear Knowledge Management Section assists Member States by developing methodology and guidance documents in nuclear knowledge management; implementing KM initiatives; facilitating sustainable education, training and information exchange in nuclear science and technology; and assisting Member States in maintaining and preserving nuclear knowledge.


Main Purpose

The Knowledge Management Analyst analyses and proposes improvements to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the subprogramme by applying advanced knowledge management methods and practices for human resource development and capacity building in nuclear technology utilization.


Role

The Knowledge Management Analyst is\:(1) an analyst, implementing a range of methods and tools to capture and document knowledge; (2) a team member, contributing to the development and application of knowledge preservation approaches and practices in developing programmatic activities and their implementation in the Department and in Member States; (3) a focal point, working closely with the relevant staff of the Section/Division/Department to ensure that new elements of knowledge management using innovative technology and media are retained and developed, and advising on the mechanisms for their implementation.


Functions / Key Results Expected

• Raise the effectiveness and efficiency of the relevant subprogramme by introducing a modern interactive multimedia approach for delivering the programme elements, and by selecting and/or developing appropriate knowledge management tools for achieving this.
• Share knowledge, experience, and innovation within the Department and (as appropriate) with other stakeholders within the IAEA.
• Integrate practical programme implementation information and experience in the identification, development and documentation of essential and innovative knowledge management products for the core activities and business processes of the nuclear knowledge management programme.
• Recommend and/or develop innovative interactive mechanisms and methodologies to enable the Nuclear Knowledge Management Unit to share its knowledge resources so as to replicate best practices. This includes making recommendations for staff skills improvement training and for new approaches to human resource skills and competency management with a specific focus on the next generation of nuclear professionals. Evaluate modalities for actively sharing this knowledge through analysis of the gap between available and required competencies.
• Support the design and implementation of pilot projects and case studies to examine and evaluate knowledge management aspects and practices with a view to making improvements in outcomes and services.

Qualifications, Experience and Language skills

• Bachelor's Degree - University (or equivalent) degree in engineering, management and/or human resource management, international studies or in an equivalent field.

• At least 5 years experience working in the nuclear sector, preferably in a technical role at a nuclear organization.
• Previous work in projects supporting knowledge management activities in education and training is a strong asset.
• Experience in working with multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.

• Excellent oral and written command of English. Knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish) is an asset.


Remuneration

The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $58583 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance), a variable post adjustment which currently amounts to US $ 21969, dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, relocation and repatriation expenses; 6 weeks' annual vacation, home leave, pension plan and health insurance
