Head of Project "Construction" (m/f)

in Lilongwe, Malawi

 

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration for 12 months. The place of work will be Lilongwe, Malawi. Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required.

In this position you are responsible for overall coordination and implementation of Welthungerhilfe projects in Malawi according to donor requirements regarding content, timing and financing. You will ensure the timely construction of 150 school kitchens and store rooms and furthermore be responsible for the planning, implementation and supervision of our infrastructure project activities in Malawi.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Coordination of construction projects with the relevant ministries and the authorities responsible for infrastructure
  • Planning, coordination and supervision of the construction of 150 school kitchens and storage facilities within 7 districts in Malawi
  • Organisation of the procurement process for construction services
  • Training and supervision of on-site engineers as well as guidance of national project personnel and sub-contractors
  • Close coordination with GIZ engineers, schools and other Head of projects
  • Monitoring of construction activities and report correspondingly

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnical degree in the area of civil engineering or a comparable qualification
  • Ideally, at least 5 years of experience in the implementation of projects of international (aid) organisations, preferably within the region
  • Extensive professional experience in the humanitarian context, in the management of complex aid measures, as well as very good analytical skills for assessing the humanitarian and health-related situation
  • A high level of physical and mental resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • Coordination and organisational skills, including the ability to work under pressure and in difficult local conditions
  • Cooperation and teamworking skills
  • Very good level of English language skills
