Head of Project "Early Recovery" (m/f)

in Somaliland

 

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until December 31, 2017. There are good prospects for an extension. The place of work will be in Boroma, Somaliland. Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required.

Welthungerhilfe is currently addressing the impact of the current drought in Somaliland. This project aims to adress the needs of the affected population in the field of early recovery/livelyhood and resilience in a rural context.

The aims of the position are to manage and implement programmes and projects on the basis of specified directives in terms of content, schedule and budget. The project is carried out in accordance with Welthungerhilfe standards and the directives/provisions of the co-financer. As Head of Project you are responsible for the operative implementation of the projects and the appropriate use of funds. Furthermore you are responsible for coordination, planning and implementation, correctly and duly reporting to Welthungerhilfe's regional office.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Carry out the project according to the co-financing agreement and Welthungerhilfe's standards for the implementation of projects
  • Continue and modify project planning and project budget
  • Complete correctly and duly end-of-month accounts
  • Examine and sign end-of-month accounts
  • Prepare and examine inventory accounting
  • Project purchases according to the approved procurement budget
  • Observe internal or external procurement directives when purchases are made locally
  • Controll inventories
  • Carry out regular petty cash controls.
  • Prepare and/or examine distribution reports
  • Prepare status reports and financial report (final report) according to Welthungerhilfe standards or the rules of donors
  • Bring the project to an orderly conclusion
  • Assure security of expatriate staff and national staff involved in the project and for the implementation of the security plan
  • Prepare and supervise visits (journalists, staff from Head Office, representatives of co-financers, etc.)
  • disciplinary leadership of staff in project

 

Your profile

  •  A university or technical degree or other relevant qualification
  •  Several years of professional project and management experience in the field of early recovery/livelyhoods, preferably in the region
  •  Coordination and organisation skills, including ability to work under considerable pressure
  •  A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  •  Intercultural competence
  •  A very good level of written and spoken English, good language skills in German; Arabic would be an advantage
