Head of Project - Sustainable Livelihoods (m/f)

in Dohuk

 

The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration until June 30, 2019. The place of work will be Dohuk, Iraq (KRI). Taking the security situation into account, travel for work will be required.

 

Within the structure of Welthungerhilfe the Head of Project is responsible for the assigned project and its staff. This contains all aspects of the project implementation, day-to-day management of the project staff, financial management, coordination in Wwelthungerhilfe and with partners, representation and reporting towards stakeholders in Iraq and Germany.

 

Your responsibilities

 

  • Carry out the programme according to the rules and standards of the BMZ and Welthungerhilfe
  • Ensure that all project relevant support is in place (monitoring - in particular remote monitoring, logistics, finance administration, etc.)
  • Manage the project team, by drafting work plans, project procedures, capacity building and empowering the team to take responsibility within the project
  • Modify and continue project planning and the project budget
  • With the support of our Safety and Security Team, the security management of project staff in the field
  • Together with the Technical Experts, provide technical expertise for the project implementation
  • Coordinate with government agencies, local bodies, I/NGOs
  • Establish good working relationships with donors and other stakeholders in-country and the support units of Weltungerhilfe in Bonn
  • Reporting to the Head of Programmes on the progress of the project and all risks associated with the project work
 

Your profile

 

  • A university or polytechnic degree in a relevant subject (development economics, political science, etc.)
  • Ideally 3-5 years of professional experience in Middle East or other less developed regions; specifically focussing on agricultural/livelihoods projects in a post conflict situation
  • Experience with BMZ as a donor is an added value
  • Coordination and organisational skills, including ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to work in a multinational environment
  • Excellent communication skills and intercultural sensibility
  • A "can do" mentality and a good sense of humor
  • A high level of mental and physical resilience and readiness to travel to areas with volatile local conditions
  • A very good level of written and spoken English, good knowledge of Arabic/Kurdish/German is desirable
