We are looking for a highly qualified individual to fill-in the vacancy of Inclusive Livelihoods Officer.
Who are we?
DRC has been working in the MENA region since 2003 and is currently one of the few international organizations registered and operating legally in the countries of Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Libya and Jordan. Since 2013, DRC has been operating as the largest INGO responding to the Syrian crisis in Syria and Lebanon and has assisted over 1 million refugees and IDPs a year. DRC has been actively operating in Syria since 2008, mainly supporting refugees. In June 2012, DRC was authorized by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) to expand its humanitarian efforts and provide assistance to IDPs and the vulnerable resident population countrywide. Since then, DRC activities have been focused on NFI distributions, Shelter, WASH, Protection, Education, Livelihoods and Mine Risk Education in six Governorates (Damascus, Rural Damascus, Dara'a, Aleppo, Hama, and Homs). Protection/community service activities are provided to beneficiaries through 6 Community Centers.
About the job
The goal of this position is to implement necessary actions to ensure inclusion and the strategic consideration necessary for persons with injuries/disabilities and older persons to gain access to, participate in and benefit from liveilhoods program activities. The position will do so through interaction among all stakeholders to identify and promote successful linkages and improved awareness.
This job is based in Damascus which required travel to other Syrian cities where DRC is present.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Rotate within 7 DRC centres and possibly government-run vocational training centres to promote the inclusion of persons with injuries/disabilities and older persons. Ensure gender is considered in all aspects of work.
- Review tools and processes to ensure selection of persons with injuries/disabilities and older persons is promoted and that data is disaggregated.
- Offer training to other DRC centre staff (vocational trainers, other social workers) on inclusive practices, in conjunction with SILO in Amman (Skype or otherwise).
- Ensure that DRC is progressing on it’s 10% inclusion target for the consortium work through monitoring monthly targets reached in inclusion per centre and generally.
- Work with private business or other institutions that may be able to offer apprenticeships/internships of persons with disabilities and support them on being inclusive.
- Facilitate any mapping/information gathering (assessment/evaluations/studies) needed to share with other consortium partners to help with decision-making and strategic focus on inclusion.
- Lead on assessment of barriers and facilitators for Persons w disabilities (PwDs) /PwIs/OPs to livelihood services at different levels, to help adapt planning.
- Ensure stakeholder engagement plans of consortium are inclusive and invites the voices of persons with injuries/disabilities and older persons.

Required qualifications:
- University degree in physical therapy, occupational therapy or social work
- Minimum one year of experience with NGO in related activities/projects in Syria.
- Excellent computer skills, including Excel.
- Fluent spoken and written Arabic.
- Very good spoken and written English.
- Experience working with vulnerable persons, in particular persons with disabilities/injuries/older persons.
- Experience in training others and mentoring/coaching others
- Experience in providing vocational training, linkages to vocational training or livelihoods assistance to persons with disabilities/injuries/older persons.
- Highly organized, can prioritize and organize multiple priorities
- Full respect for client/organization confidentiality is a definite pre-requisite
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment with flexibility and respect for all team members
We offer
DRC will offer the successful applicant a six month contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National Staff for the Officer level.
