The UNOPS ICT team provides the organization with tools and resources to compliment and support the corporate ERP System (Unit4 Business World), Intranet, corporate Website in alignment with the UNOPS technology platform and ICT strategy.  System development domains include eProcurement, knowledge management, performance reporting, payroll, benefits and entitlements and project management.

Functional Responsibilities

Reporting to the ICT SharePoint Developer, the IT Technician will work to deliver innovative tools and solutions for UNOPS' corporate Intranet (SharePoint 2013) in a SCRUM-based development framework.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Provide substantive support in developing SharePoint based solutions that support corporate business systems infrastructure
  • Provide support in developing tools that adhere to the product and service needs of internal clients.
  • Proactively solicit and discuss user feedback and support and extend applications as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as required
  • Liaise with UNOPS offices worldwide to implement innovative ICT solutions.
  • Deploy and support web-based document management, collaboration and business process automation solutions for UNOPS offices worldwide on UNOPS platforms based on SharePoint 2013, JavaScript (jQuery and other advanced frameworks), HTML5 and .NET
  • Develop and maintain reporting and data analytics in the form of infographics and dashboards with a focus on business intelligence

Applying your skills beyond ICT

  • Support in the development of knowledge management and collaboration for best practices
  • Provide support the team in promoting the UNOPS overall ICT strategic plan pertaining to the minimum ICT standards, infrastructure, and connectivity dimensions
  • Work with Microsoft Office and SharePoint platform, design Intranet pages to share information with UNOPS offices worldwide
  • Develop quality focused procedures, instructions and templates from best practice and disseminate through Practice Communities

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education requirements:

  • Applicants must be pursuing a university degree, such as Bachelor's, Masters or PhD, preferably in the field of Computer Science or Information Technology or be graduated from such studies within the last 3 years.
Experience requirements:
Although no previous professional experience is required for an internship, some experience in the area of software development and/or troubleshooting is highly desired;
  • Knowledge of SQL and Agile framework is desired;
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft technologies and back office platform (SharePoint, SQL) and frameworks (.NET, PowerShell, etc.) is desired;
  • Good knowledge of web-based development with one or more of the following platforms: JavaScript, or .NET. is highly desirable;
  • Experience in one or more of the Microsoft collaboration and productivity tools: Office, SharePoint 2013, etc.is desired;
  • Experience and ability in using business intelligence tools, for example: gathering, consolidating and analyzing data from databases and reports is desired;
  • Experience and knowledge in at least one of the following SharePoint skill-sets: site management, document management, and “app” development is desired;
  • Experience with web analytics tools (Google Analytics, Webtrends, etc.) is highly desirable;
  • Knowledge of HTML5, CSS, graphic design and web standards/best practices is highly desirable;
  • Knowledge of PowerShell, .NET platform, and/or C# programming is an advantage.

Languages requirements:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English is required;
  • Knowledge of another UN language is an asset;

This internship is not designed to lead to a staff position with UNOPS. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of the internship.

Interns may be eligible for a monthly stipend from UNOPS provided that they do not receive funds from other institutions. Further, UNOPS may provide a one time travel lumpsum of 500 USD. However, they must make their own arrangements for accommodation, travel and necessary visa arrangements.
