Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants. Context:

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG), inter alia, undertakes investigations into alleged violations of IOM’s regulations, rules and relevant administrative instructions, such as but not limited to, fraud, theft and embezzlement, corruption, sexual exploitation and sexual abuse, abuse of privileges and immunities or of authority, workplace harassment, bullying, whistleblower retaliation or other acts or omissions in conflict with the general obligations of IOM personnel. The successful candidate will also support inspections of high risk areas in order to minimize the risk of fraud and misuse of resources. The Office of the Inspector General is seeking applicants with experience in investigations of an administrative nature and inspections. The position requires international travel on an ad hoc basis and of irregular frequency. Under the direct supervision of the Chief Investigator and the overall direction of the Inspector General or his/her delegate.

Supervision

The intern will work under the guidance and supervision of the Chief Investigator and in cooperation with other colleagues in the OIG team.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Chief Investigator, the Intern will have the following duties and responsibilities:

1. Provide investigation support to the Investigator (Intake) in allegation and complaint management and analysis:

Allegation and complaint management:

•Assist with the management of allegations and complaints database;

• Assist with the management of the receipt of allegations and complaints; • Assist with assessments of allegations and complaints; and

• Drafting assessment summaries and closure notes under the guidance of the Investigator (Intake).

2. Performs such other duties as may be assigned.

Education

• Studying for a Master’s degree or post graduate qualification in Law, Human Resources, Criminology, Accounting or a related field from an accredited academic institution; • University Law, Human Resources, Criminology, Accounting or a related field from an accredited academic institution and the intention of proceeding towards further study or professional training.

Experience

• Strong organizational skills and practical experience of how to multi-task, prioritize and work independently;

• Ability to timely understand the Organization’s structure and portfolios; • Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team of colleagues of varied cultural and professional backgrounds;

• Proven ability to produce quality work accurately and concisely per set deadlines; • Practical experience of how to multi-task, prioritize and work independently. Languages

Fluency in English is required. Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is an advantage. Desirable Competencies:

The incumbent will acquire technical knowledge in the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Investigations Unit.
