Under the general guidance of the Chief, CSD Section, the Health Specialist will be responsible for the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Health Programme in the Sierra Leone Country Office.

The Health Unit is part of the Child Survival & Development (CSD) Section that implement programme that directly impact maternal and child health with linkages to other programme areas.  The Unit works with government officials to support the delivering of the free-health care initiative and to strengthen health care systems amongst other initiatives with other Implementing Partners in Sierra Leone.  Read more on our programme on: https://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/sierraleone.html

 

How will you make a difference....

To make a difference in the lives of children and women in Sierra Leone, under the general guidance of the Chief, CSD Section, you will be responsible for the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Health Programme by ensuring the following:

  • Programme Development & Planning: Situational Analysis (SitAn), Country Programme Documents (CPD), Country Programme Action Plan (CPAP), Rolling Work Plan (RWP), Health Strategies, etc.
  • Technical Support: provides technical support to government and non-government organizations at the national, regional and provincial levels in the planning, development and implementation stages of the Health programmes/projects
  • Monitoring & Evaluation: monitors and evaluates Health projects’ implementation including developing health workplans and action plans. Identifies problems and proposes remedial action. Identifies alternative courses of action, to accelerate/improve programme delivery.
  • Networking and Coordination: liaise with internal and external stakeholders on health activities for strategic planning and actions to enhance synergy.
  • Donor Reporting: participants in the preparation of reports for management, Board, donors, budget reviews, programme analysis, annual reports, etc.

To qualify as a Champion for every Child, you will have... 

  • An Advanced University Degree in public health, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, epidemiology or other health related sciences is required.
  • A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in public health planning and management and/or in relevant areas of maternal and neonatal health care, health emergency/humanitarian preparedness, at the international level some of which preferably in a developing country is required.
  • Relevant experience in health program/project development and management in any UN system agency or organization is an asset.
  • Experience in working in the West African sub-region or Africa will be an added advantage
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language or a local language is an asset
