The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization experienced in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. In the light of the high influx of migrants to the Greek islands, NRC has started an emergency response programme on the island of Chios in mid-October 2015. NRC directly assisted over 70,000 refugees and migrants, working together with the Greek authorities, humanitarian actors and volunteers to set up and maintain a dignified and efficient flow of refugees from arrival at the beach, via registration and reception facilities, to departure by boat or plane to mainland Greece. The purpose of the Service Support Worker is to ensure proper handling of goods and materials for the project and support departments

Job description

Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
Promote and share ideas for improvement
Perform according to the work and development plan
Move and place items, equipment, goods and supplies, taking appropriate safety and security measures
Support programme teams for preparation and implementation of distribution activities
Carry out small construction/maintenance works
Advise programme staff on storage arrangements

Qualifications

Experience from working as service support staff in a humanitarian/recovery context
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Some knowledge of English
Good physical condition
At least one-year experience in a similar position
Driving license (mandatory)
Basic education (a higher education diploma and computer skills are a plus)
Experience as a construction worker is a plus
