Senior Focused PSS Assistant (National Staff Only)

We are looking for a highly qualified who can fit the position of Focused PSS Assistant in DRC Bekaa Office

Who are we? 

Danish refugee council has been operatingin the Middle East and North Africa for over a decade, running a combination of livelihood, protection, advocacy and relief projects. DRC has six project offices throughout Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia/Libya, Turkey, and both a country and regional office in Jordan.  

DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities (registration, follow-up and awareness sessions) rehabilitation of collective shelters and the implementation of quick impact projects.

In Bekaa you will find one of the most historical places in the world such as the Baalbak temple. It is also a safe and relaxing environment but at the same time very close to Beirut.

 

About the job 

The overall purpose of the role is to Provide psychosocial support to children, caregivers and adolescent boys  who have experienced or are at high risk of experiencing a child protection or GBV violation

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Identify safe spaces to provide Focused PSS (fPSS) that adhere to the quality checklists for center-based and outreach activities shared at the inter-agency level and deliver fPSS in line with global and national inter-agency SOPs/standards 

• Ensure that children, caregivers and adolescent boys are registered in focused PSS activities without creating stigma and/or judgement 

• Actively identify the most vulnerable: children at high risk of or engaged in child labor and/or early marriage and their caregivers and ensure their enrollment in DRC’s focused PSS programs (including referring high risk adolescent girls to focused PSS) 

• Coordinate closely with CP and GBV caseworkers to ensure the case plan is taken into consideration to tailor focused PSS intervention to the needs of each child and caregiver 

• Ensure that the caregivers of children engaged in child labor are referred to livelihood opportunities and ensure that all children and adolescent boys in focused PSS are referred to education services or livelihood opportunities for those above 15 years old 

• Ensure that ALL children and caregivers accessing focused PSS are referred back to community based PSS at the end of the program 

• Coordinate closely with the DRC or CBO psychologist or mental health service providers in the area to ensure children and caregivers in need are supported with mental health services 

• Ensure the proper documentation of data collected (hard and soft copies) during focused PSS (attendance sheets, permission slips, parental consent, referrals etc.

Moreover we also expect the following: 

Required qualifications 

• Bachelor in social work, teaching, child development or other related field 

• Excellent knowledge of child development and adult learning techniques 

• Excellent communication and psychosocial first aid skills 

• Excellent facilitation skills 

• Excellent knowledge of the negative impacts of child labor on child development  

• Excellent knowledge of the worst and other forms of child labor

 

Desirable qualifications 

“Ideally, you will also have…” 

• 2 to 3 years of experience providing psychosocial activities to high risk children and caregivers  

• At least 1 year experience providing psychosocial support to adolescent boys 

• 3 years of experience as a child protection caseworker with children engaged in child labor and their caregivers

 

We offer 

DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract until 31st of December 2017 renewable depending on performance and availability of funds; you must be able to work in Bekaa.
