Background Information - FG

The Finance Group (FG) is a critical and strategic business function in UNOPS and serves as an authoritative and integrated partner in the organization on strategic financial planning and budgeting, business strategy and practices, financial analysis and risk assessment, financial management services and long term organisational treasury and investments.  As the steward of resources of a self-financing UN entity, FG is accountable for timely cost recovery and reporting to partners, maintaining the integrity and transparency of financial management of resources in accordance with the highest standards of ethics and organisational/international accountability framework and the accurate and transparent financial reporting to governing bodies, clients, partners and stakeholders.

Functional Responsibilities

The Finance Associate - Treasury reports to the Head of Treasury.  The role is responsible for assisting with effective management of cash, investment and foreign exchange operations for resources mobilized by the organization.

1.     Banking         

  • Assist in daily cash positioning and liquidity planning.

  • Assist in the preparation of forecasts.

  • Assist in establishment and maintenance of UNOPS bank accounts.

  • Allocate HQ accounts banking fees to other business units.

  • Reconciliation of General Ledger with Treasury module.

  • Ensure business requirements relating to Treasury services are promptly implemented in our ERP.

2.     Investment        

  • Perform close monitoring of UNOPS Fx exposure.

  • Process foreign currency and interest rate transactions.

  • Assist in the preparation of reports on investment and related matters for the Investment Committee (IC).

  • Assist in producing heading reports. 

  • Prepare the reconciliation of cash positions.

  • Contribute to the year-end closure process and in the preparation of the year-end financial statements for assigned areas.

  • Assist in the preparation of year-end audit letters to ensure bank balances and transactions are properly audited.

3.     Knowledge management and innovation        

  • Contribute to the development and introduction of innovation to ensure UNOPS is continually incorporating best practice approaches into financial services.

  • Contribute to the dissemination and sharing of best practices and lessons learned for corporate development planning and knowledge building.

    The Finance Associate - Treasury impacts the effective management and financial integrity of UNOPS enabling prudent management and growth of financial assets and building an informed and shared management engagement on financial issues in support of the UNOPS overall strategy.

Education/Experience/Language requirements

  • Completion of secondary school or equivalent. Bachelor degree in accounting finance or any other related field will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible finance experience is required at the national or international level.
  • Some experience in UN organisations an asset.
  • Full working knowledge of English.  
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an asset.

Contract duration: one year, renewable subject to available funding and satisfactory performance
