Food Security Project Assistant - Puntland, (National Position) - Somalia
The NRC Somalia/Somaliland Country Programme is part of the NRC Horn of Africa, Yemen, Uganda and South Sudan regional mission. Operations in the region began in Somali land in 2004, expanded to Puntland in 2006, South Central Somalia and Kenya in 2007. Prioritized activities focus on Shelter, WASH, Education, Food Security,Protection and Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA).
The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.
The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Under the guidance of the Food Security Project Officer, the Food Security Assistant will contribute to the achievement of NRC’s objectives in Puntland
Contribute to the planning and implementation of the Food Security & Livelihood component of the FS program in Puntland

Job descriptionGeneric Responsibilities
Adhere to NRC policies, tools, handbooks and guidelines
Assist with the implementation of the support function portfolio according to plan of action
Prepare and develop status reports as required by management
Ensure proper filing of documents
Promote and share ideas for improvement of the support function
Assist in stakeholder sensitisation of project(s).
Ensure communities are mobilized and information about the project(s) is shared before project start.
Participate in the beneficiaries’ identification, verification, selection and registration in the project area.
Ensure that all the registered beneficiaries receive all the assistance due to them timely.
Lead in conducting regular meetings with target beneficiaries, community committee members and local leadership.
Ensure that output data and reports are shared with the supervisor timely.
Lead in the collection of baseline, post distribution and endline data/information.
Ensure that regular meetings are held with stakeholders; beneficiaries, non-beneficiaries and community committee members to discuss project progress and challenges etc.
Participate in the implementation of the plan of action, review achievement and constraints, and provide feedback accordingly
Assist the project staff and partners in encouraging and sensitizing public opinion on Protection issues and Rights focused activities
Conduct field visits and interviews with target beneficiaries to map the unmet needs, and identify any other significant issues to be reported as appropriate
Receive and maintain information from IDPs coming to the NRC office and report their requests
Participate in weekly market price monitoring and monthly project outputs and outcomes monitoring
Keep track of the distribution of inputs, cash/vouchers and training activities.
QualificationsAcademic and Professional Qualifications
Good educational background in a relevant field, such as agriculture, livestock farming, community development, social development, public health, nutrition and/or environmental protection, or other related field
At least two years’ experience working with a NGO in a similar position
