The Ethics Office seeks an intern to start as soon as possible, preferably by or before August 7, 2017. The main purpose of the internship is to assist the Ethics Office with a communication project-specific non-routine tasks.

The UNICEF Ethics Office was created at the end of 2007 under ST/SGB/2007/11 of 30 November 2007 in order to “cultivate and nurture a culture of ethics, integrity and accountability to enhance trust in and credibility of the United Nations”. The mandate of the UNICEF Ethics Office is both staff facing and management facing.

Work Assignment:

The Ethics Office seeks an intern to start as soon as possible, preferably by or before August 7, 2017. The main purpose of the internship is to assist the Ethics Office with the following project-specific non-routine tasks:

  • updating the Ethics Dialogue Facilitator (EDF) training course material, developing new case studies, updating and maintaining the EDF site;
  • updating and maintaining the Ethics Office website;
  • developing a social media presence, in particular on Yammer;
  • preparations for a new Ethics Office outreach activity, namely a UNICEF-wide Ethics month in October 2017;
  • any other specific new and clearly defined outreach and visibility initiatives that the Ethics Office may engage in during the internship period;
  • Developing and populating a Prioritization Matrix to guide the provision of in-country Ethics training per region and country office.

The candidate selected for the position will report to the Principal Adviser, Ethics.

Duration of Assignment:  16 weeks, with a possibility to extend up to 24 weeks

Duty station is New York, NY.

Qualifications and competencies:

Education:

To be considered for this internship with the UNICEF Ethics Office, applicants must be enrolled in a graduate or post-graduate degree programme in communication & media, public policy or administration, business management and/or administration, social sciences, or a related field from a recognized institution.

Experience:

           Currently enrolled in a degree programme in a graduate or post-graduate school, preferably in communication & media, public policy or administration, business management and/or administration, social sciences, or a related field from a recognized institution.

•           Have good academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.

•           Additional consideration will be given for any past work experience.

•           Language proficiency requirements: Fluent in English, second UN language an advantage (especially Spanish or Arabic).

•           Able to adapt and work in a multicultural setting.

•           Able to start work in early August 2017.

 Functional Competencies

  • Analyze numerical data and all other sources of information.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Technical Knowledge in SharePoint online and Share-Point Design is an advantage
  • Knowledge of standard MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Computer skills, including internet navigation and web applications.

Conditions of Intern:

  1. Costs and arrangements for travel, visa, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibilities of the Intern.  However, UNICEF will pay a stipend of US$ 1500 per month as a contribution to living expenses.
  2. Visa: Intern is responsible for obtaining the necessary entry visa and arranging their travel to New York, NY. UNICEF/Office of the Executive Director (OED) will assist only in issuing documents required in visa processing.
  3. Health/Medical insurance: Intern is required to hold valid health/accident insurance. UNICEF accepts no responsibilities for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the internship whether on or off UNICEF premises.
  4. Employment: There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Provision of Supervising and Monitoring:

The intern will work under the supervision of the Principal Adviser, Ethics.
