We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic individual to help source and collect market information to perform this task over a period of 3 months.  
Who are we?  
Danish Refugee Council is a leading protection agency pursuing our mandate to protect and promote durable solutions to displacement-affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. In the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), DRC apply a regional approach with operational presence in Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey and Iraq.  
Present in Iraq since 2003, DRC is today operational in the Kurdish governorates, in and around Baghdad and in several South-Central governorates. Focused both on the influx of Syrian refugees and the current IDP crisis, DRC is providing assistance in a range of sectors including Camp Coordination and Camp Management, Protection, Livelihoods, Emergency Response (including food security, cash, and NFIs), WASH, Shelter and Mine Action. The Iraq programme presently employs some 450 national staff and 45 international staff, and is growing to meet new, emerging needs associated with ongoing and recent conflict in multiple locations.  
About the job 
In line with the growing DRC Programs in general, the amount of procurement and supply chain needs have increased substantially. Market research is an essential exercise in the quest to satisfy the DRC’s needs, and is the first step in any successful sourcing process, particularly if the goods, service or works have not been procured previously. The main outcome of the market research will be a list of suitable suppliers that have passed the DRC registration process.  
We are therefore looking for an enthusiastic individual to help source and collect market information to perform this task over a period of 3 months.  
Reporting lines 
  • Technical Reporting Line: Senior Procurement and Logistics Coordinator 
  • Day to Day Reporting Line: Logistics and Procurement Manager-Baghdad 
Duties and Responsibilities 
The intern will be expected to identify specific numbers of new suppliers per category (preferably specialized suppliers not general distributors) and use a market survey assessment tool to complete a DRC suppliers list.  
Each supplier will have to complete a Suppliers Profile and Registration Form. These will be available in Arabic, English and Kurdish however the outputs must all be in English.  
The intern will be expected to reach out to other organizations (e.g. other large INGOs, UN agencies) to share their vendor database and experience. 
A list of prices for commonly purchased items and services (e.g. stationaries, IT, training, printing, rentals, etc.) must also be developed. 
Proposed Mythology  
The intern will assess the status of the local market by sourcing for suppliers via such institutions as the Ministry of Trade, the Chamber of Commerce, Employers organization, international NGOs, UN Agencies and other International Organizations etc.  
The intern will make contact with the supplier and explain who DRC are and the market research we are conducting.  
The intern will then forward the Supplier Profile Form to the vendors for completion. 
The intern will analyze the completed Supplier Profile Forms for initial assessment based on the information provided by the vendors, such as: company registration, areas of activity and capabilities, qualifications, source of goods, availability of products and reference checks, etc. 
On the basis of this assessment the intern will prepare a list of suppliers and service/works providers for each supply category. 
The supplier list is to be separated by categories and commodities. One vendor/supplier should only participate in a maximum of 3 categories, in order to attract specialized suppliers rather than general suppliers. There are 20 categories:

  • Lot 4 Spare parts  
  • Lot 5 Stationeries
  • Lot 6 Agricultural tools and materials        
  • Lot 7 Photocopying and printings

  • Lot 10 Hotels and accommodation
  • Lot 11 Vehicle repairs work shop
  • Lot 12 Vehicle hiring service
  • Lot 13 WASH/ Water trucking
  • Lot 14 Sealing off kits
  • Lot 15 Visibility Materials
  • Lot 16 Core relief Items
  • Lot 17 Protection Recreational Materials and kits
  • Lot 18 Hygiene Kits
  • Lot 19 Kitchen Kits
  • Lot 20 Refreshments 
The intern may need to visit the premises of the supplier/ service/works provider and prepare a Visit Report to assess their suitability. 
Based on the results of the supplier list and Visit reports the intern will assess each supplier and service/works provider, document results and make recommendations of pre-qualified vendors by category of commodity/ service 
The intern will prepare the following for the final output: 
  • Suppliers List
  • Price List  
  • Supplier Registration and Profile Forms in hardcopy scanned onto internal drive
  • Supplier visit forms in hardcopy scanned into Supplier Files
  • Supplier files filed in hard copy in DRC relevant office  
DRC Responsibilities: 
DRC will: 
  • Facilitate access
  • Provide transport  
  • Provide per diems
  • Provide certificate of completion  
Duration of Assignemnet: 
  • 3 months with flexibility on days worked per week.
Reporting Arrangements: 
We are looking for an intern to be placed in Baghdad office. The intern will be involved travel to sub-offices (Tikrit, Anbar). The intern will report to technically the Senior Procurement and Logistics Coordinator and on a daily basis the Procurement and Logistics Manager on site. 
About you 
  • Recent graduate
  • Degree in Marketing or Business Administration or Travel/ Tourism  
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook  
  • Should be fluent in English and Arabic 
  • Interest in Humanitarian Aid
  • Enthusiastic and confident  
  • Willing to travel to sub-offices  
Languages:
  • Spoken and written English and Arabic are essential.

We offer 
DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract of 3 months. You must be available to start work from 6-August-2017.  
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for Nationals; 30 USD daily as Per Diem.
