We are looking for a highly qualified candidate for our program operations in Northern Iraq. The ideal candidate possesses outstanding communication skills, a desire and willingness to learn and a personal commitment to professional improvement.

 

Who are we? 

Danish refugee council has been operating in Iraq since 2003 and in Northern Iraq since 2010. 

DRC Iraq is currently implementing a broad range of activities relevant to conflict affected communities and persons. The activities are categorized in ten sectors: Shelter and Non-food Items, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Livelihoods, Protection, Mine Risk Education, Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM).

 

About the job: 

The Livelihoods Assistant (technical) ‘s main role is to support DRC’s Cash for Work Officers, Team Leader and Program Manager in the design, implementation and monitoring of Cash for Work/infrastructure rehabilitation activities..
 
 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify Cash for Work (CFW) and rehabilitation activities in target areas, in collaboration with the community and according to project plans;
  • Coordinate CFW activities in target areas, including selecting skilled labors, supervising workers and ensuring high quality standards;
  • Ensure high quality in construction, maintenance and rehabilitation activities in target areas;
  • Support safe storage, inventory and maintenance of materials, tools and equipment, as well as ensuring safety of all staff and beneficiaries during implementation of project activities;
  • Support beneficiary registration and payments as required;
  • Assist in compiling and submitting written project updates to the Livelihoods/Cash for Work officers and team leader;
  • Ensure equal participation through all stages of the project from all members of the community, taking into consideration gender, age, ethnic identities and clan and tribal affiliations.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned.

 


About you: 

To be successful in this role you must have: Analytical Skills, Planning Skills, with strong skills in Communication, Teamwork skills, spoken and written Kurdish, Arabic, and English language is essential yet appreciated.

Required qualifications

a) Essential qualifications

University degree in civil engineering or other relevant technical background

b) Essential experience:

  • High integrity and willingness to conduct her/himself transparently and open to scrutiny.
  • Strong empathy skills, genuine care and respect for needs of others, especially women and people with special needs. 
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to write reports and communication pieces.
  • Good organizational skills, ability to determine priorities and attention to detail a must. 
 

Desirable qualifications: 

  • University degree in social sciences, psychology or other relevant field, or undergraduate degree with demonstrated strong experience;
  • Relevant professional experience of    not less than 2 (two) years;
  • Familiarity/prior experience with DRC and its persons of concern (including internally displaced persons and refugees-returnees) would be a distinct advantage;
  • Familiarity/prior experience with NGO sector would be an advantage.
  • A high respect to client/organization confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and respect for people with special needs and other vulnerability.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player

  • Willingness and capacity to work in the field and travel every day to field locations in Ninewa.

 
 

We offer: 

DRC will offer the successful applicant a 4 month contract, renewable dependent on both funding and performance. Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National Staff; please refer to www.drc.ngo under Vacancies. This position will be placed at level Place level B2 1.
