The position reports to the Sr. Admin. Assistant and is responsible for providing technical support to all users of ICT equipment in the Makeni field office and provide weekly report to ICT Officer in Freetown. Under general supervision, modifies existing mainframe programmes and data sets, in order to retrieve computer data/reports.

Purpose of the Position

Under general supervision, modifies existing mainframe programmes and data sets, in order to retrieve computer data/reports.

Key Accountabilities and Duties & Tasks

Provide technical support to all users of ICT equipment in the field office. Provide weekly report to ICT Officer in Freetown.

Work with the ICT Officer in the head office regarding upgrades to the existing IT infrastructure as directed by the main office.

Install telecommunication equipment in the field office UN House and all vehicles.  Operate and man the VHF and HF base radios and other communication related equipment.  Facilitates the smooth exchange of information between the Field Offices, Freetown office, other UN Agencies in the common premises, the provinces and other country offices in the region.  Make sure that all radio messages are received and transmitted promptly and accurately.  Review and determine level of urgency, importance and confidentiality in the current emergency situation and provide feedback accordingly.

Work with Consultants/Technicians in the programming and installation of telecommunication and other ICT equipment and assist with training other staff in their use.

Performs preventative maintenance on all ICT equipment in the field office.

Maintain an up-to-date inventory of all ICT equipment and prepare reports as requested.

Report any problems with the VSAT to the Service provider and also to the ICT Officer.

Ensure that both the LAN and UPS networks are functioning at all times.

Qualifications of Successful Candidate

Diploma in Computer Hardware Maintenance and/or software installation.  Training in telecommunication equipment maintenance.  Knowledge of both hardware and Microsoft office based applications.

Four years’ experience using office automation equipment, information management, systems, and application software. Experience in Radio Communication equipment also required
