The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has been present in Somalia since early 2004 and has since expanded its programme. Since 2004, the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has demonstrated a regional competence and expertise in working with displaced populations. The Regional Office is based in Nairobi, Kenya with offices and operations in Somalia (Puntland, Somaliland and South & Central), Kenya, Ethiopia Yemen, Djibouti and South Sudan.

The Finance Assistant is responsible for day-to-day financial accounting tasks at NRC Dolo office.

Job description

Comply with Financial Handbook and other NRC policies
Verify that all vouchers and supporting documents are according to standards set in the Financial Handbook, and enter them into the accounting system
Make approved payments
Record all cash movements
Follow up on advances and refunds
Prepare and arrange for bank withdrawals and transfers and present for verification
Maintain the filling system for all financial and accounting documents
Prepare periodic financial reports and submit for review to the finance coordinator
These responsibilities shall be adapted to the particularities of the job location and context, phase of operation, strategic focus and type of programme intervention. This section shall be revised whenever a new employee is hired or the context changes significantly. The line manager drafts the specific responsibilities and sends them to his/her line manager for approval.
Sending original voucher to JL Area Office/Kismayo
Verify supporting documents to ensure completeness before payments
Ensure proper and adequate filling system for financial documents as NRC standard
Conduct weekly cash counts with HoO or line manager and month end cash counts with the Head of Office.
Ensure accurate reporting from all NRC implementing partners
Prepare all necessary information for internal and external audits
Prepare annual statutory returns
Prepare monthly financial reports for submission to Area office
Assist in preparation of financial reports, budgets and budget monitoring for projects
Preparation of Cash request to Kismayo Office.
Making copies and or scanning of all vouchers and the support documents before sending to Area main office or country office

Qualifications

A degree/Diploma in Business Management or Commerce with relevant finance experiences
Knowledge of auditing
Office administration skills
Interpersonal skills
Computer skills with exposure to accounting systems
Good communication skills
Accurate and keen to detail
Experience from working with accounting in a humanitarian/recovery context
