You will maintain a global database of indicators, analyze and compile data, and support the development of new tools for data collection, analysis and dissemination. More broadly, you will support the monitoring and reporting on the situation of children and women, with focus on HIV/AIDS measurement and monitoring.

The Data & Analytics (D&A) Section is located within the Division of Data, Research and Policy (DRP) at UNICEF's New York headquarters. The Section supports UNICEF's commitment to better results for all children, including the most vulnerable, through the work of three teams: the "Data Collection Unit", the "Data Analysis Unit" and the "Data Dissemination Unit".

As the Statistics Officer (Health & Immunization), you will work within the Data Analysis Unit to support the statistical, monitoring and reporting work in HIV/AIDS.

How can you make a difference? 
You will maintain a global database of indicators, analyze and compile data, and support the development of new tools for data collection, analysis and dissemination. More broadly, you will support the monitoring and reporting on the situation of children and women, with focus on HIV/AIDS measurement and monitoring.

This will involve:

1. Data collection, compilation, analysis and quality assurance

2. Methodological development and interagency partnerships/working groups

3. Further analysis of HIV/AIDS data of different studies

4. Capacity development of countries to monitor HIV/AIDS prevalence and intervention coverage

5. Data dissemination and advocacy

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • A university degree in demography, public health, social sciences, epidemiology or statistics. An advanced degree in these areas is an asset.
  • A minimum of 2 years of work experience at the national or international levels in statistical data processing, data analysis, and development/maintenance of statistical databases.
  • Proven experience analyzing, compiling and presenting data, with a focus on HIV/AIDS-related areas.
  • Proven experience in data analysis and writing to disseminate key data and findings to technical and non-technical audiences, particularly related to HIV/AIDS.
  • Proven experience in working with STATA or SPSS including Code Writing. Experience in R is an asset.
  • Proven experience in working with data from household surveys in particular DHS and MICS and its use in policy and programming.
  • Proven experience in conducting extensive literature reviews and summarizing main findings.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
