Bamako is a non-family duty station with a difficult security and working environment. Mali is a non-family duty station. Living conditions are acceptable in Bamako, but security instructions need to be strictly complied with. Adequate housing is available for rent at US$ 500-1500 per month. The national currency is the Franc CFA (February 2013 exchange rate was 1 US$ = 490 FCFA). Visa credit cards are accepted in some hotels and larger shops. Mali is a country prone to malaria, so mosquito nets are highly recommended. Basic medicines are available from pharmacies, but provision needs to be made for specialized medication.
Security recommendations from the UN Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) must be followed by all UN Staff in the course of their assignments in Mali.
For the sake of rewarding experience, UN volunteers in MINUSMA carry out their duties with flexibility, commitment, and a willingness to live and work in challenging conditions including heat and limited water and electricity supply. Asssiignmmeennt Deettails

By unanimously adopting resolution 2295 of 29 June 2016, the Council further decided that the MINUSMA to support the
implementation of the Agreement on Peace and Reconciliation in Mali” notably to support the cantonment, disarmament,
demobilization and reintegration of armed groups, including through the integration of elements of the signatory armed
the anticipated plans of the demobilization, disarmament and reintegration and integration commissions; and to take into
account the particular needs of women associated with armed groups, and to provide for their full access to Disarmament
Demobilization Reintegration (DDR) programmes, inter alia, through consultation with women’s organizations (paragraph 19 a (ii) and (v)).
The Mission has been asked to assist the transitional authorities of Mali in developing and implementing programmes for the disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR) of former combatants and the dismantling of militias and self-defense groups, consistent with the objectives of reconciliation and taking into account the specific needs of demobilized children (http://www.un.org/en/peacekeeping/missions/minusma/)

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Child Protection Unit, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
In collaboration with team members, UNICEF and Mission counterparts, support the development of training materials
for the M&R (Monitoring and Reporting) mechanism on grave child rights violations, and child rights violations/abuses
emanating from the armed conflict;
Provide support for the training of international and national partners reporting under the M&R mechanism, and carry out
trainings as and when required;
Carry out specialized trainings for Mission counterparts on M&R mechanism, as and when required;
Support the development of a Data Base for the Monitoring and Reporting mechanism, in collaboration with M&R
partners, and maintain that data base;
Update M&R reports in RBB (Result Based Budgeting) data base on a regular basis;
Work with Mission counterparts and Human Rights Section, and provide technical expertise in order to develop systems
which ensure that grave child rights violations and child rights abuse/violations emanating from the armed conflict are
systematically reported to the Human Rights Section, United Nations Police (UNPOL) and Child Protection Unit (CPU) for
documentation and follow up;
Provide support for evaluation and identification of partners for M&R mechanism, and development of proposals to
increase the capacity of partners to carry out M&R;
Provide technical support, and help organize and coordinate periodic meetings held on the M&R mechanism.
Contribute to the establishment of data collection mechanisms in cooperation with relevant Mission’s components,
national and international counterparts and stakeholders;
Carry out regular exploratory visits to IDP sites and areas affected by the armed conflict in collaboration with team
members, mission counterparts and partners;
Carry out investigations as and when required on child rights violations/abuses in collaboration with Mission
counterparts, including at the regional level;;
Participate in joint assessments/security assessments and evaluations relating to protection issues;
14 Jul 2017 Page 2 of 5 Analyse all incoming data on child rights violations in collaboration with team members to identify trends and provide support for development of strategies to address violations;
Carry out mapping of services available for children in areas affected by armed conflict (and update) and work with
Mission counterparts and partners in order to ensure development of programmes to protect children from becoming
associated to armed conflict, and the reinsertion of children victims of armed conflict;
Follow-up on cases that reach the justice system to inform on the level of impunity in collaboration with Human Rights
and Rule of Law Sections;
Provide support in the area of legislative reform, and advocate for the ratification and development of legislation;
Produce regular reports on grave child rights violations, child rights abuse/violations emanating from the armed conflict;
Provide support for drafting of periodic reports for UNSC (United Nations Security Council) Working Group on Children
and Armed Conflict, annual Mali report for the UNSG (United Nations Secretary General) on Children and Armed
Conflict, MINUSMA reports, to the SRSG CAAC (Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children And
Armed Conflict ) office, to Human Rights Commission, to SRSG Violence;
against Children, to MINUSMA – and other reports relating to child rights violations as and when required;
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders and represent the Unit on relevant thematic areas, as and when necessary;
Contribute to the elaboration and delivering of communication and training materials and courses related to child
trafficking as necessary;
Conduct monitoring travels to different regions as and when required;
Perform other relevant duties as required by the supervisor;
When working with national personnel or (non-)governmental counterparts, the Volunteer is strongly encouraged to set

The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational
necessity and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment.
A UN Volunteer receives a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) which is composed of the Monthly Living Allowance (MLA) and a
Family Allowance (FA) for those with dependents (maximum three).
The Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) is paid at the end of each month to cover housing, utilities, transportation,
14 Jul 2017 Page 4 of 5communications and other basic needs. The VLA can be computed by applying the Post-Adjustment Multiplier (PAM) to the
VLA base rate of US$ 1,587. The VLA base rate is a global rate across the world, while the PAM is duty station/country-specific
and fluctuates on a monthly basis according to the cost of living. This method ensures that international UN Volunteers have
comparable purchasing power at all duty stations irrespective of varying costs of living. The PAM is established by the
International Civil Service Commission (ICSC) and is published at the beginning of every month on the ICSC website
http://icsc.un.org.

In non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, international UN Volunteers
receive a Well-Being Differential (WBD) on a monthly basis.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are provided a settling-in-grant (SIG) at the start of the assignment (if the volunteer did not reside
in the duty station for at least 6 months prior to taking up the assignment) and in the event of a permanent reassignment to
another duty station.
UNV provides life, health, permanent disability insurances as well as assignment travel, annual leave, full integration in the UN
security framework (including residential security reimbursements).
UN Volunteers are paid Daily Subsistence Allowance at the UN rate for official travels, flight tickets for periodic home visit and
for the final repatriation travel (if applicable). Resettlement allowance is paid for satisfactory service at the end of the
assignment.
UNV will provide, together with the offer of assignment, a copy of the Conditions of Service, including Code of conduct, to
the successful candidate.
